Looks like Kessler has no interest in fighting Bute

The purse bid would be somewhere mid-July, so an October fight would be more likely to happen.

I think Showtime would be all too willing to make Bute-Dirrell in trying to salvage some of the investment they made with Dirrell and continue to build Bute's reputation. It would really create some buzz for a potential Ward-Bute fight.

Bute - Dirrell is by no means an easy fight neither for Bute or Dirrell; Bute will be tested , Dirrell can outbox most boxers; it would be great if it happens but even if Showtime redeemes Dirrell he must travel to Canada if he wants some good ca$h; and though i hope i don't think Dirrell will get all of a sudden humble and accept a shot at the IBF belt if it's not in the U.S.

I doubt that Showtime is yet ready to forgive Dirrell. I figure Dirrell has to get his career back on track against mediocre opposition on lesser networks, prove that he is exiting and prove that his brain has made the miraculous recovery.

I figure we are at least a year from that point.

Kessler's team never made a counter offer... I'm not saying Kessler is ducking, I'm saying Kessler's team choose not to face Bute and it's not with your opinion that it change that fact.

It would surprise me if Showtime would forgive Dirrell right away. It's right though that it would save their investment in Bute. What's better for Showtime? Bute-Johnson/Pavlik and then the winner against the super 6 winner? Or Bute-Dirrell first? I don't know. Maybe Bute-Dirrell would generate more interest, even if most of that interest would be for many posters wanting to see Dirrell knocked out.

    Haha.

I think Bute fights Pavlik next, which isn't that bad. Johnson would be ok with me as well. Dirrell? Only with the hope of seeing him KTFO lol.

About the counterroffer: It is not so, that managers/promotors just sit and exchange offers "I'll give you..." vs "I'll give you...". There will usually be a lot of informal talk in long periods, where they talk without giving real offers. Money aren't discussed as such. They try to find out the plans of each other to see, if they can make a good deal together.

I met Lucian Bute at a fight card in Denmark. It must have been Kessler-Lucas, though I can't say it for sure. After Lucas was annihilated, they of course didn't discuss a Kessler-Lucas fight, but I'll bet you anything, that Mogens Palle (Kesslers manager at the time) have spoken with Interbox about their plans for Bute and Kesslers future plans. Because even though it was not relevant at the time, it could be later.

Chris Meyer, CEO at Sauerland, and Interbox have undoubtedly been in contact a lot of times as Bute gave some options for fighting Berrio, who was at Sauerland (Do Sauerland still hold an option after the Bute-Berrio fight?). They have been talking fx about a Bute-Larsen fight. So they know a lot about each others points of view. So they will know a lot about whether Interbox is willing to let Bute fight abroad. But one thing is a bute-Larsen fight - another is Bute-Kessler.

I believe, that both parts could be interested in a Bute-Kessler fight later. But this time was more of a feeling out. For this fight they may not even really have spoken about Kesslers purse. There are a lot of other things to talk about.
What are the other part willing to? Can Sauerland be co-promoter? Who could get tv-rights for which parts of the world? At which time should a fight be fought? Are interbox willing to accept a fight early saturday evening, so it would be like midnight or no later that fx 2 am in Europe? Will they give a rematch-clause? Which month should a fight be fought? Taxes? Who should pay what? (There have been quite a few fights over this after fights fx between Mogens Palle and Sauerland Event). There are really a lot of things to find out.

If Bute fights Kessler, then the winner of S6, then there will be very few interesting fights at 168 lbs. to cash in on the S6 win. If he takes them in the opposite direction, then he can make way more money.

About fighters ducking: Kessler never really knows what is going on in the negotiations. I have interviewed him several times (I have worked as a journalist, and is writing a book about pro boxing in Denmark), and it is clear, that he leaves it up to his managers. He can say, that a fight is interesting, but in the end he is not involved in anything. I had an interview with Mads Larsen today, and it is the same thing. He was never involved. He just got an offer, and that was it. There is no ducking between Kessler and Bute, just business.

For some reason a lot of people find this hard to understand. I don't know why since it is quite logical...

PS. It should actually say "promotors" as Kessler really doesn't have any managers, even though Sauerland Event acts as such.

I have worked for Jyllands-Posten for about half a year in 2008 as a steady freelance. But have had my own website knock-out.dk for 15 years. I have also helped a lot of journalists in Denmark with articles and have been used in newspapers and a few times on tv as an expert.

Ok I've actually frequented knock-out dk as a visiter for some time. I knew you were a mod, but didn't know you owned the site. You're a former boxer yourself or just an avid fan :D

I'm a lover, not a fighter :D I have been a hardcorefan since the mid 90'es. I have followed boxing in Denmark very close and have met a lot of people through the years. I'm quite surprised how accessible people are, if you show you are serios about your stuff. I have a meeting with Chris Meyer, probably next week. It is not about the Bute-Kessler negotiations, but I will definately try to slip a question or two in at the end of the interview ;)

Cool! I've been into martial arts and boxed for a little while. Sparred both in boxing and martial arts never entered competitions or the AMs though. Love the sport and I'm a die hard fan.

People are quite accessible when you show a genuine interest in their sport at least that's my experience. Been working out in the same fitness center as Kessler for years and he's a righteous person. Down to earth and quite easygoing and you could ask him about most things.

The young Sauerland generation seems to be more idealistic than their father. What's your take on this?
Do keep us posted on your interview with Chris Meyer :good
