Anybody ever consider the possibility that Ortiz is a Tune up for Sergio Martinez?

thinking Mayweather would fight a natural lightmiddleweight is not logical thinking.
Looking at his fights at the Welterweight class, with the exception of ODLH, he's fought smaller guys than him.

Pacquiao fighting Martinez has more logic than Mayweather fighting Martinez, though he's technically 3 weightclasses under....

The Oscar fight was at 154 lbs. Shane, Baldo, and Mitchell were all bigger than him. Ortiz is bigger than him. Judah and Hatton were about the same size as him. Mayweather will fight bigger guys, as he's done throughout his career. However, it doesn't make any sense for him to fight Martinez at this time.

I'm a ******* but if Floyd signs and beats Sergio Martinez in the ring a year from now, I will put Floyd above Pacquaio.

Unless Pacquaio does something crazy like beating Sergio first.

that's just not true :nono complete B.S.
    Mosley is bigger
    Baldomir is bigger
    Sharmbe Mitchell is bigger
Zab came into the ring heavier
    Ortiz will be bigger

    I'm tired of the misconception

I said this a couple weeks ago on a fantasy thread. If Pac not willing to take the test, I'm pretty confident that Martinez will likely be the next opponent for Floyd. It's a great move. Catchweight at 154 purse split will be 70/30 Floyd.
I personally think Sergio is overrated. Floyd will counter all night and pot shot the ish out of him. MD imo

I don't think so. I don't buy the tune-up for Pac theory either. Floyd attended the Berto-Ortiz fight looking for the winner almost certain to be Berto, a righty fighting nothing like Pac. Ortiz won, did good ratings and holds Floyd's belt, so he fights Vic, regardless of style or stance.

Probably not... Floyd was pretty much set to fight Berto, same manager easy to make.. He lost, since Ortiz flies under GBP banner so it was another easy fight to sign..

i really don't believe this as a tune up for anyone, more just a payday... however if the fight is really close or Ortiz pulls a rabbit outta his ass, Floyd will fight again.. this is the same way Oscar fought after the Hopkins loss, it may just not be in his blood anymore..

    got it straight

mostly referring to his recent fights - Marquez, Hatton - who are from a weightclass or two under him. Mosley, not considered as a big welterweight. Other than that, his welterweight fights were against others within a couple pounds of him.

But because these other welterweights may have been a couple pounds heavier than him fightnight, still doesnt translate to logical sense of him wanting to take on a Light Middleweight, as i had originally stated. With the exception of ODLH, he never has.....

Believe the Martinez hype if you want, Manny is the better fighter, by leaps and bounds.

Great thread this never came into my mind, it would be a major chess move by Floyd.
