Hopkins not only clearly beat Calzaghe in that fight but the punchstats was mind boggling when I seen the numbers they gave Calzaghe. And for people who didn't see the fight and only read the paper or something there gonna believe that crap.

Ok I just watched the fight again and while Calzaghe was not hitting home with a lot of power punches, he did throw and land a lot. I really fail to see how anyone could argue Hopkins won the fight. He started well and then got visibly tired as Calzaghe pressed him like he had never experienced before. I think if there was no knock down in round 1 then the supposed controversy about the outcome of this fight would be non existent. As it is, depsite the fight being an ugly one to watch, Calzaghe won it. The judges, bar A Byrd, agreed, as did Lederman, the commentators, most of the fans watching, and I would argue most objective fight fans on ESB.

OBJECTIVE fans usually think the word comes from OBJECTION.

It is obvious that on these boards, fans of either Calzaghe or Hopkins cannot be objective about scoring this fight. However, two of the judges, Harold Lederman, the commentators, most of the press, and boxing aficionados who are not fans of either fighter, seem to agree that Calzaghe won the fight. :deal

    Ah....this old chestnut.

With the circumstances all stacked in Hopkins' favour, Sugar Joe beat him, forcing Hopkins to shamefully resort to cowardice to avoid being thrashed in the championship rounds. Live with it.

80% of fans agree Calzaghe won it clearly. Deal with it.

Sugar Joe will always be 46-0, with his fabulous legacy perfectly intact. Suck on that, *****.

You are exaggerating shamefully here Joe.

There were two large polls the week after the fight, each with several hundred responses.

And only 75 % picked Joe as the winner.
    :yep

These included a lot of very serious (but reasonable) BHop fans.

Sues2nd was a big Bernard supporter, probably the biggest on the board.

    He scored it for Calzaghe.

Thats what makes the fight so controversial . Whenever Calzaghe unleash his flurry of slaps ,If you look closely he doesnt land them . He was ineffective all night hitting nothing but shoulders and air .

It is the same small minority who thinks Hopkins won that fight.

The only winning Hopkins won that night was best actor awards for low blows.

For the life of me i do not understand how people score this fight for Calzaghe.
Unless you can get points for just throwing punches no matter if they land on the guard or just air.

I must have missed that bit in the judging rulebook.
Even if Hopkins output was crappy atleast he landed the cleaner and harder punches.
    Calzaghe barely landed anything.

Just glad hes gone, his style just makes me gringe everytime i watch it.
Fortunately you only see a few threads about him in the last 2 years, only a few rabid brits still bring him up.

they would never count any of those punches for any other fighter on this planet. that **** was fake and designed to convince dumb, easily manipulated fan boys that crack boy cal won. round 3's punchstat alone sshows how full of **** that stuff was. the first two rounds were some what accurate, but everything after round 2 was garbage as far as the statistics are concered. joe's the beneficiary of being white. nothing more. he's not an ATG and never will be.

What the hell has skin colour got to do with it? Absolute b/s! Also, I don't think many people have been claiming that he is an ATG. Just that he landed a lot of punches during this fight, though not hard shots, and he did enough to win a real stinker of a contest. :patsch

It is alright for a black to pull a race card, but it is racist when it is not a black person doing it.
