Harry Greb comes up pretty frequently on here, what with posters bemoaning the fact that Dempsey never gave him a title shot. Others, giving him an outside chance against Jack Johnson. How about if we fast forward Harry to Joe Louis's reign.and give him that heavyweight title shot he never got? Prime for both boys,[whenever you think that was]. FIFTEEN ROUNDS OUTCOME???? Does Harry go one better than Billy Conn, befuddling ,and bemusing the Bomber, to take a decision, and the title? This content is protected This content is protected Or. Does Louis take his head off with that meat axe right hand? This content is protected This content is protected What do you say?
I think Harry Greb might give Joe Louis trouble and wouldn't be too surprised if he eeked out an upset decision, but I'd favour Joe Louis to win by KO.
Grantland Rice wrote, in 1935, "In my opinion, the fighter who would have bothered Joe Louis as much as anyone else was Harry Greb at his peak," In this article : http://news.google.co.uk/newspapers?id=Dh5WAAAAIBAJ&sjid=p-MDAAAAIBAJ&pg=4501,2244974&dq=harry+greb+joe+louis&hl=en
U, great article by Grantland Rice. Styles make fights, and Dempsey / Louis fight is my favorite fantasy fight. But to even mention lil ole 160 pound Harry Greb, as an opponent for Joe Louis, speaks volumes for the greatness of Harry Greb ! He was an original, whose likes, we will never see again.:hi:
