What is the formula needed to beat Calzaghe ?

Clazaghe was very quick and skilled at 168. Out boxing him, or out working him is a tough task. I would say the other guy needs to hit harder, have a solid body attack, and be able to counter to win.

 

Personally i thought Hopkins stole it, but i can understand the judges going with the busier Calzaghe.
Kessler was right in the fight with Joe until Calzaghe adjusted, but i reckon any good fighter who does the basics well ( like Kessler does) is capable of beating him. It wouldn't take an extraordinary fighter to do it.
I'd have fancied Kessler in a rematch.
He scraped by Robin Reid and was fortunate he met an aging and weight drained Eubank.
I'd favour prime Eubank, Benn, Jones, Toney and Hopkins over him. These are all far better fighters imo.

 

I really didn't see Calzaghe land a clean proper punch against Hopkins.
But Hopkins did nothing to win the fight either.
They both deserved to lose.

 

Yeah it was dire.

Who do you think Calzaghe is, a Floyd Mayweather?

Dude was put on his ass by a shot-to-**** Roy Jones, and scraped through a fight which many thought he lost against a 43 year old Hopkins. These two guys in their primes, as well as Eubank, Toney, etc would have given you various formulas to beat Calzaghe.

 

Robin Reid anyone? Trounced by an 83 year old Sugarboy Malinga, then took physical-peak Joe Calzaghe into the seventh circle of fiery Hell??? :think

 

I gave Hopkins the decision over Calzaghe and I gave Kessler the decision over Calzaghe by about 4 rounds - and early in Calzaghe's career I gave the decision to David Starie by 8 rounds if I remember - Roy Jones would've wiped the floor with him at his best - the shadow of Jones could've had him out in ht efirst round - Calzaghe criminally over-rated in my book

 

here's the last fighter, michael smyth, to have the formula to beat joe. actually joe looks pretty good in the first round. this is only the first and third rds.

Calzaghe as always provoking emotive responses.

The guys that gave him trouble were the ones who were able to counter effectively (with the right in particular) in the midst of his flurries. Hopkins,Kessler and Reid spring to mind. As for RJJ it was mostly the fact that he's bloody talented that led to Calzaghe being floored. Luckily for Joe, Jones only had a couple of good moments left in him in that fight.

He didn't like brawlers and spoilers either if they could get him too loose his discipline. Bika and Salem gave him fits.
