Agree with Andy Townsend, and many of the "irish" football players. But it's disrespectful of you to say Macklin isn't in any way Irish. Both his parents are Irish. He played hurling with Tipperary ffs. The nationality you identify with isn't black and white. If you happened to grow up in Scotland, of English parents and was interested in distinctly English culture, would you honestly be able to say you were a Scot with no affinity to England?

If you go back far enough you'll find descent from all parts. No person is 100% English/Irish/Scottish etc etc. It's a bit of a moot point.

Nationality is one of the most confusing things to deal with, it all depends on individuals i have 1st generation immigrant friends who are very english and lost all their previous culture but i have 3rd/4th generation mates who when you walk into their house its like being transported to another country. My dads Australian my mum comes from Irish/Scottish descent but i would call myself English always.

Agree with the whole its fashionable to be Irish thing, on st. Paddys day everyone whos an 1/8th irish gets on board.

Alot of Irish descend from the English who settled there in the 16th and 17th century. So alot of those Irish-English were infact English-Irish is you go back far enough.

Fair point if I had grown up in Scotland, but I didn't. Didn't know that about macklin either. It just winds me up the way people claim heritage. ****ing bunny jones playing for Wales, English boxers fighting for Irish titles etc. All ****ed up ino
