No he does not. Its not one of his tools. Why would he try to focuse on something new when he has had success with his current tools.

He needs to use his youth is my opinion. He has youth strength and power on his side. Try to maximize those to even the skills gap some.
He needs to get inside in which he will probably take plenty of clean shots doing and if his chin holds up do his work on the inside. His inside game was good with Berto once he was in there he punished him the right hooks straight lefts and Great uppercuts. He needs to make PBF feel his age and inactivity.

I dont get why people always want to change fighters before their biggest fights. They obviously had success with what they were doing to get there. You dont change the gameplan before hand.

 

You need a jab to beat Floyd. It offsets his rhythm. Ortiz doesn't have one plus he can be hit with a right hand all night.

 

Don't you think the main aim of the jab is to upset Floyd's rythm, as oppose to actually landing on him? Because it didn't really matter that Oscar wasn't landing them, instead, he was disrupting Floyd's flow and pushing him back - which seemed to help Oscar's cause.

Any chance Ortiz has won't come down to his jab. Its not good. His straight left, the punch we see Corley and Judah catch Mayweather with is weak because hes a right handed fighter. The best chance he has is trying to use his size and that lead right hook which packs a big punch. He's not a bad combination puncher which means something is going to get through to Jr.

That being said, the win strategy for Ortiz is hoping Mayweather has declined as a fighter. Not exactly the best strategy. Lets say Mayweather has declined though, its not going to stop him having that great sense of timing and nice straight punches which are going to make Ortiz's horrible footwork and by proxy balance quite clear.

 

Ortiz's only chances are to knock Floyd out or hurt him badly enough to throw him off for the rest of the night. A good jab isn't going to help him do either of those things. All he needs is a pawing jab to set up a lucky power shot.

Pacs defense is so underrated because his offense is great.
Its one of boxings biggest misconceptions. JMM who is the most accurate puncher he has ever faced has trouble hitting him which says alot.
It is one of the reasons i am on the fence about his chin. I have not seen him caught with many punches that he does not see coming. Those are the ones that hurt you. He is so quick with his reflexes that he braces for almost every punch.
