On his very best night, how good/great was Eddie Mustafa Muhammad?

I've been watching quite a bit of him recently, and although he seemed to be quite inconsistent, he had cracking ability and could be pretty ****ing great at times.

Ability-wise, where do you rank him all-time at 175lbs, in comparison to guys like Charles, Moore, Spinks, Foster, Galindez, Jones Jr, etc etc?

I firmly believe if Eddie was well prepared, he would have defeated Michael Spinks in thier illfated rematch.

On his best night, Eddie MM was better than everyone outside of Bob Foster.

I really liked Eddie, very good power, technique, ring smarts, could be lazy at times though. He could beat anybody if motivated.

On his best night Eddie Mustafa was a MASTERFUL boxer...a lightheavy for the ages. He forsook the temptation to just blow Marvin Johnson away and instead did this fascinating number of positioning himself to debilitate Johnson's body with those left hooks..he fought like he was in total control..just loved him in that fight...ditto vs Jerry Martin..what a class A stoppage that was...then he let it all go to his head and suffered from delusions of grandeur with thinking he could go up to heavyweight and conquer Larry Holmes..he didn't make it past a mediocre, scared Renaldo Snipes...he overreached in other words.

At one point,Eddie,Spinks and Saad Muhammad were the three best in the world at their weight.

I remember thinking how good a weight drained EMM's chin was against Spinks..it took an absolute bomb that he didnt see coming to drop him..then he took an all out attack of fully torqued punches from Spinks for what seemed like forever..Spinks couldn't put him away and really never looked like he was going to..though I could possibly see that one getting stopped in another era.

Mr Gregory always seemed so ridiculously relaxed in there...a natural for sure.

I'm not so sure he wouldn't have beaten Foster.
I know, we've all said this about many fighters, but, if Eddie didn't have his weight problems and his head problems, I would (SERIOUSLY) consider putting him TOP 10 pvp ALL_TIME.
What's not to like? Great boxer, numbing puncher, impossible to knock out...his greatest opponent was simply his own demons....
I'd love to meet him; I'd tell him the exact same thing...

This is the most motivated I ever saw Eddie in a
live broadcast. If he didn't have weight issues for
the defense against Michael Spinks, he might well
have won. Letting himself go for Snipes was one
of the most stupid blunders of the last 50 years.
(What's even more crazy is that Bob Foster would
have envied Eddie's ability to pack on the pounds
for Renaldo. To this day, Bob insists that he would
have knocked out Frazier and Ali if he had only
    weighed a couple pounds more.)

Note the love handles showing above Eddie's trunks
even at 175. He could have made 170 and still enjoyed
full strength with better discipline. (In fact, he probably
could have made SMW with the program Mackie Shilstone
used for Michael Spinks at 175. His muscle mass wasn't
through the roof as it was for Saad Muhammad and Qawi.
I don't know what his waist measurement was, or his
body fat %, but it was probably quite high in comparison
to other top LHWs of the day.)
