    article about the WBA and their ridiculous super champion/regular champion nonsense but reference to
    Geale being the preferred option to Barker for Martinez's next fight.

    • I was glad to see middleweight champ Sergio Martinez and promoter Lou DiBella work out a contract extension. They've been great for each other since they got together in 2007. If it ain't broke, don't fix it. By the way, even though DiBella announced this week that he had made a deal for Martinez's Oct. 1 defense against England's Darren Barker, I'm told HBO has not signed off on him as the opponent and prefers Australian titleholder Daniel Geale, who has already turned down an offer. But if Geale and promoter Gary Shaw (whom DiBella is close to) eventually accept, Geale likely will get the call. The Barker camp, I'm told, is aware that their deal is contingent on HBO approving Barker.

    Good news!

    I think we would all love to see Gealey take on Martinez at some point, would be a great technical fight between 2 of the best and grounded champions world wide.

    Even if he gets beat, if he puts up a good effort his stocks shouldn't diminish...... Possibly go up in the states and other opportunties will arise.

    If the money is good Gealy shld go for it, he is 30yrs and at the peak of his powers at the moment.

    if he fights Martinez i give him massive props but too soon IMO.he would lose now 1 year or so he wins.

    Not sure what would change in 1yr mate

    Geales at the top of his game now, why wait 1yr........ This is a massive fight on a world stage.

    1 year would give him a little more experience, and as Geale has shown, he's continually improving.

    Having said that, I'd be pretty confident for a win anyway, as he has the uncanny ability to just step it up as needed.

    I don't care when he fights.

    Talking about Geale V Martinez is just madness :silly

    Geale has the IBF title and he can defend it 3 or 4 times a year against top 15 world rated fighters

    Why take on P4P number 3 in the world straight up :-(

    I like geale just as much as the next guy ( not as much as Sox and Marcus) and want him to hold the title and build a big name for himself

    The Martinez fight will be there in 16 months with 3 times the money on offer now if Geale keeps winning :good

    Why take on the P4P number 3? Because it shows balls and courage to want the best. Something we have been missing in boxing (apart from Katz & Vic) for a long time in this country :nono

    Yeah Geale might be biting off more than he can chew by fighting Martinez now . Kudos to him because Geale said he wants to fight the best but IMO fight a few mandatories first , then he will battle hardened for the challenge of Martinez .

    Ha I suggested that ages ago, wasn't really serious but thought it would be a fair name to raise his exposure with. Will they get enough numbers to make some decent dollars in Tassie?
