Arum has said its either barker, manfredo or rubio for chavez jnr next. If barker is out, it would seem certain manfredo gets the spot.

I agree with the geale should stick with his ibf belt and build himself up a bit. Martinez should still be there as an option later. But if geale did take it (i think geale has rejected the offer anyway), its not the end of the world.

    * edit: martinez is fighting barker next 100 %. regardless of hbo approval or not.

Daniel & his team will make the right decision, they have done a decent job so far.

This post from Ashley astounds me - it's actually logic!

Edit - Also, as much as I like Geale, he will never beat Martinez. As Floyd 'Joy' Mayweather Snr say's "Not this time, not that time, not anytime"...

DiBella and Martinez look to the future and that means an October 1st bout is in the making.

"It’s going to be Darren Barker; it looks like and I believe it will be on HBO," said DiBella, who says that HBO’s approval of the Brit could come by Friday. "Frankly, we made another offer to- at HBO’s request- to Daniel Geale, who frankly, was another fighter that Sergio wanted to fight to, in effect, unify- even though he doesn’t technically have the [W]’BC belt, we don’t acknowledge [Julio Cesar] Chavez Jr. as champion- and we tried to make the deal with Geale but Daniel wants to make the first defense of his title in Australia against somebody of less danger than Sergio before he takes on a challenge like Sergio, which I can understand. But right now, it’s looking more and more like Barker and I hope to have that wrapped up with HBO by tomorrow."

As for the venue, with the Nokia Theater in Los Angeles not available, DiBella says that it will "most likely" take place in either Las Vegas orAtlantic City.

But while Geale has possession of the IBF title belt, he is a virtual unknown to the boxing fans of America.

"Geale and Sergio can do a small stadium in Australia; we’re not going to Germany to face Sturm. That’s because I’ve been to Germany too many times," he said, chuckling. "But yes, there is a possibility he could do sort of a European tour, particularly if there’s a third fight that can’t be on U.S. TV."

Martinez would have way too much for Geale who i like a lot as a fighter but has a lot to work on at this level. Look what Martinez did to Dzinziruk, who was an unbeaten fighter who had made 8 consecutive defences of his world light middleweight title. Simply destroyed him, way too much variety.

Easily beat Pavlik who was universally recognised as number 1 middleweight at the time. Knocked out Williams. Sturm won't fight him. Geale won't fight him. Cotto won't fight him and Martinez is too small for 168lbs. Don't really know what you expect him to do here :huh

expect chavez jnr to fight manfedo next for an easy defence-good publicity in the states low risk for an avge fighter, geale would beat both very easily in oz,us or mexico... as forgeale vs martinez i think it would be an interesting fight...- but knockin ova a few mandatory's is the way he should go

Dan Rafael said in his chat today that Geale was their first choice and that DiBella made Geale a solid offer but wasn't exactly huge either. Dan goes on to say that he thinks Geale as a new titleist is making the right choice to make a defence in oz.

Boxing is a business before it's a sport at this level sad but true....Grange have invested in Geale and will be smart in his management.

End of the day it's the IBF belt he's holding so he needs to fight a mandatory every second fight so he cant cherry pick easy fights all year.

By the looks of things Geale may have a little more time as the IBF have ordered a 4 man fight off so Geale may even get 2 defences in before his mandatory
