yeah ofcourse i have quite a few guys like this
    its not uncommon

but then again i have seen guys who run a lot
but the stamia is not there.

i am a little odd here, running wise my stamia
sucks but i can go a lot of rounds.

maybe its cause i pace myself or who knows
    but its really strange

but about the techique and rolling with punches etc
ofcourse this is the number 1 thing and weights or running will never replace it

but for some reason people only mention this argument when the discussion turns to weightlifting
but they never say anything like this when talking about running.

oddly enough a friend of my mine who boxes at the same place as people
runs a ton, throws a million punches a round on the heavybag, and also when shadow boxing

    but when sparring,
his footwork is good, but the rest of the techique sucks
doesnt throw punches properly often, chin up sometimes
    bad defence.

he has like 70 amauter fights and a hard to spar because of his footwork and workrate
but still its not just the weightlifter types who often neglect techique

Is it possible, that the problem with weight training is not so much the training itself, but the ethic behind it? I get the opinion that most people do the weight training because it means that they will get stronger and be able to hit harder. For those that train and are good (and dont totally neglect other areas). Subconciously, this means that fighters are going in with the ethic to sit down on every punch and take an opponents head off.

I think post prison tyson is an example of this. Whereas the reality is that it is far more important for fighters to throw punches as quickly as possible, in combination and with proper technique and timing. Like pre prison tyson used to.

To answer the thread question; it's because boxing is a very conservative sport. Why it is, I don't really know. Perhaps it has a conservative core following. When you see the threads in the lounge it's certainly easy to get that perception.

I don't think this debate is at all as heated and infected in sports like wrestling, mma, tennis, (real) football, American football, baseball, basketball etc. Even golf, who one would think would be the mother of all conservative sports, weight lifting has come to be accepted in a wholly different way.

I know a 70 year old man who lifts and runs daily and looks and operates like a 50 year old. Proper core lifts can really strengthen you for life. I've been trying to get back into it since i broke my back and wrist, and it's definitely made a difference.

I was sparring with a guy who's some 20+ lbs north of my weight tonight, and really felt how important the core strength is when you have to hold off the charges. And dead lifts really helps you with that.
