Ortiz is still in a win-win situation even if he loses 1. he will gain huge respect for even facing PBF 2. he will gain even more fans for putting up a fight 3. he gains great exposure from 24/7 4. & if he does the unthinkable & beats pbf he will be on his way to the HOF in the future A star will be born
Berto might hit harder than Floyd, but speed hurts - the ones you don't see cause the most pain. Floyd by UD in a fight that is interesting in spurts based solely on Ortiz's hunger and desire to win.
Thats why GBP forced Floyd to take the fight after he turned down all the money they would have gotten for Pac. Its a win win for golden boy. The only one who can lose is Money. I will never ever beleive that Floyd at this stage in his career willing agreed to fight a 26 year old true welter southpaw. Not now not ever. This fight is the only other option GBP game him it was an either or. 'Either you fight Pac for millions or you will fight our future star Victor no other options are on the table.'
I'm not sure why no one sees Ortiz making this competitive. I've been of the opinion for a long time that the guy who beats Floyd is going to be a real power puncher which Ortiz is. People will say "Oh Oscar landed a few jabs against Floyd, that means you have to throw a jab to beat him." Thats fine until Floyd adjusts to it and then it doesn't work, which is what happened in the Oscar fight. Some will say "OMG! Did you see the Castillo fight? Its pressure that beats Floyd!!" Again, fine if Floyd injures himself early in the fight and isn't himself but not so fine if you consider that pretty much everyone Floyd has fought since Castillo has tried to duplicate that strategy and failed. Floyds going to lose to a good accurate puncher who can badly hurt him and take him out of his game with a single shot. No one is going to outbox Floyd, no one is going to pressure Floyd successfully for 12 rounds. No one is going to string together combos over and over to break Floyd down. Don't get me wrong, my money is on Floyd in this one, but Ortiz is the type of fighter that I have always thought stood the best chance of beating Floyd.
what i meant is if he had a jab so he wouldnt be one dimensional ala castillo. he could box had a great jab great and very accurate punching. the second castillo fight was just as close. its because he too knows how to adjust as well thats why he was able to be successful even in losing. when they faught they started boxing and floyd was winnin but it was close ansd he got comfortable with letting his hands go that helped a puncher like castillo to different things which were all setup with the jab. all his body shots were in combos started with a jab that floyd tries to slip and follow it up with hooks too the body. floyd is so cautious that he tries to catch everything and if u give him different angles at different spots he leaves himself open. even to this day. look at eberytime mosley hit him in the second round it was a to punch combo. the second punch always coming behind the jab. all setup with the jab to the body straight to the head. if victor has a jab this would be a much different story
NO , i think all these threads about ortiz being over his head etc are just floyd haters , i personally think that while ortiz is obviously not the best mayweather has fought , the timing of this fight with floyd inactive + plus looking a little slow last time round , and ortiz looking better than ever hungry to prove himself , means this will be floyds toughest test ... and to suggest floyd will stop ortiz is ludicrous , we all know floyd has little power as a welterweight and ortiz although stopped by maidana has gotten up against harder punchers than floyd ( maidana , berto ) . i believe ortiz has every chance to win this fight , floyd just looked so sloppy against mosely in comparisson with his other bouts , if he slips against ortiz he will be in trouble no doupt about it , but i still favour mayweather due to his experience and ring iq , mad props to floyd for challenging this young champ , oh a jab is not the key to beat mayweather there is no evidence to support this myth , check out floyds pull counter , the key is speed pressure pressure and punch output while not being reckless
he definately does , this is bertos natural fighting weight , floyd was a damn featherweight , berto is the more explosive fighter hes younger and stronger and his straight right hands do more damage than floyds do , all you have to do is go watch there last two fights and then youll know
no way in hell , floyd is twice as slow as he was then he does not have the reflexes his once did , also gatti comes in like a wild caveman with little defense , ortiz keeps his guard up generally and also faints and bobs his head on the way in , ortiz is faster and stronger than gatti , and has not taking the beatdown of a life time prior to stepping in the ring with money may who was active when he fought gatti unlike now
