British journeyman Karl Taylor beat Dingaan Thobela. Thobela was a former WBA and WBO lightweight champion and went on to later win a WBC super middleweight strap.

    "Useless".

What is your ring record? 9 more wins in a ring than you'll ever have.

**** all to do with loiving a loser! its about appreciating folk that make sure boxing shows don't fall to ****! about people who show dediation and willingness to jump in a ring unprepared at the drop of a hat. Who help prospects learn their trade.

A lot of fighters, not just journeymen, are treated like that, it is one of the huge failings of the sport.

The reality is for every fight won, a fight must for lost.

Boxing needs tough men, (sometimes decent prospects themselves at the start of their careers), fighting 20+ times a season, giving 20 prospects a good, hard workout over 4/6 rounds. Promoters also need someone they know can come in as a late substitute, to save a bill and give everyone a pay day.

These journeymen know the score, they are always in decent shape, and know that if a bill in their area is happening, then even if they are not already on it, the phone may still go...

Eliminate these men, the sport in this country becomes a joke. Rank novices fighting rank novices, then when the step up comes, a fighter would be totally unprepared and almost certainly losing.

Prospects now a days already are wrapped up in too much cotton wool, without the further handicap of losing the few learning fights they have on their record...

Yeah. People don't really know **** about boxing if they cannot grasp how much novice proffesionals learn when they enter the ring against someone who has had 50+ fights. They bring experience. And they don't all fight clean either. Headbutts and sly shots when the ref is blind-sided.

When people say that they are the backbone of boxing. They really are.

all good points they are usually facing hostile crowds, fight at various weights, have no prior knowledge of the person they are fighting etc.
