Dumbest thing about Tyson was definitely people questioning his opposition.

Trevor Berbick, James Smith, Pinklon Thomas, Tony Tucker, Larry Holmes, Michael Spinks, Frank Bruno, Razor Ruddock,

You know, these were all legit opponents. Way tougher than the guys Wlad and Lewis were facing in the last 2 decades

People giving Tyson a pass for his losses to Holyfield--as Tyson was past prime or such--forget one (or 2) things.

Holyfield is nearly 4 years older than Tyson, and Holyfield had been in many wars himself by then, such as with Bowe. You can come up with more excuses for Holy.

People who claim Tyson was not past his prime with Holyfield forget that he spent 3 1/2 years in prison with no boxing equipment and that he was 24 in his last fight before prison and almost 30 for his next fight...Those people really shouldn't claim anything when they obviously never saw him in his prime...

As far as Holyfield is concerned, he looked washed up going in...The HGH and steroids really revitalized his career, he was far more effective with the headbutts than anticipated...

Holyfield was a lot more active than Tyson when he did his prison bid, so he was in better condition for championship fight. Tyson would of had a couple of more fights in him, he would of performed a lot better than he did in the fight they had.

Had Tyson fought in the Ali/Frazier/Foreman era we would remember him alongside guys like Quarry, Bonavena, Chuvalo, et. A really good contender who never won a world title.

I am going with this one,

Tyson Only won because his competition was weak

I won't say the competition was weak, but it was certainly not on the level of Lewis and Evander. And look how Tyson faired when the real world class contenders came along.

His late 80s opponents certainly tried to fight back, but none were on the level of skill to be effective in keeping Tyson's onslaught at bay and beat him.

Enter Holyfield. Evander beat Tyson, TWICE, no excuses. Tyson was performing at his peak, and was beaten, twice by Evander.

The only loss I give Tyson a bit of leeway on was the Lewis fight, cause Tyson was a bit past it by then, but not too much.

    I'd give Tyson's level of competition a fair A-

It wasn't an amazing level of competition, but it was a very tough and competitive era. He beat the likes of Green, Spinks, Ruddock, Tillman, Biggs, Tubbs, Thomas, Holmes, Bruno, Botha, Etienne, Nielsen, Savarese, Seldon, Mathis Jr, McNeeley, Stewart, Williams, Tucker, Smith, Berbick, Ribalta, and Tillis.

His top 5 wins in my opinion are....
    1: Michael Spinks
    2: Tony Tucker
    3: Larry Holmes
    4: Tony Tubbs
    5: Donovan Ruddock

Michael Spinks - Undefeated heavyweight champion with wins over Holmes, Cooney and Qawi.

Tony Tucker - Undefeated heavyweight champion with wins over Douglas, Young, and Broad.

Larry Holmes - ATG at heavyweight, and it's a common misconception that he was shot, this still a very capable Holmes with wins over Cooney, Ali, Shavers and Norton.

Tony Tubbs - Wins over Smith and Page.

Donovan Ruddock - Wins over Weaver, Broad, Smith, and Dokes.

    No he wasn't.

Tyson had fought something like 3 or 4 rounds in 5 years before facing Holy, and had 3 1/2 years in prison with no boxing.

Tyson LOOKED in his prime against Holy, but he was nothing more than a headhunter living on past glories then.

IMO, that isn't a get out jail free for Tyson. They are the consequences of complete and utter waste of a career and talent, and IMO really drag down his career when reviewed. But to say he was anywhere near his best is not correct.

He was nowhere near ready to face Holy at that point. He needed a few decent fights to 'tune up' first. He didn't get them. Either because he had no interest in it, or his management were ****ing hopeless, I don't know.

but his preparation for his post prison career was just awful.
