Ali tended to give away body shots, and Dempsey had the type of hook necessary to deck him. While I think Muhammad should win the decision, it would be no cinch with the tiger in front of him.

    Ali ducked white fighters.

Failed to meet the best heavyweights, Frazier, Foreman, Norton and his no.1 contender his entire career.

He had a selfish, inexcusable 3 year layoff that is disastrous to his resume

He avoided middleweight Monzon like the plague.

He was outboxed by a blown up flyweight Miguel Canto over 4 rounds.

He was knocked spark out by Hennie Thoonen 10 seconds into the first round

How can you even consider his chances against the twin fisted assault of lo, Jack Dempsey?

Ali would take a hard fought, yet convincing decision. He would have been too adaptable for Dempsey.

And Tunney totally outboxed Dempsey. You can justifiably say that Dempsey was n't at his peak for those fights with Tunney, but neither was young Cassius Clay (Ali) for the first Cooper fight.

Well depends whose era were talking about?

Ali would win during the present and more recent times. But if it was back in Dempseys era, i pick JD.

Ali has a few tight moments, but overall dominates him.

Of course the obvious pick is Ali by decision but this is exactly what upsets me about Dempsey ... if Jack actually improved as a fighter post Toledo and had a consistent real trainer and bouts I se him having the natural skills to be hell for Ali ... very good foot speed, excellent hand speed, great two handed power, a huge heart, a very solid chin and a warrior .. he could have been a tougher match up than Frazier but based on what we actually have to go on it does not amount to a hill of beans ..

nah Frazier is Ali's poison. Physically, technically, stylistically andly mostly importantly mentally

Very good and informative post. :good

Yes, if Dempsey had improved post Toledo, well then Ali would be fighting basically a super Joe Frazier.

But unfortunately, what became of the infamous Manassa Mauler, Jack Dempsey isn't good enough to beat Ali, although The Greatest would have a few tight spots! :bbb

The only difference the era would really make would be in the KD/Neutral corner rule, so do you think Dempsey would score the KD?

    Ali would dominate him imo
