Should Miguel Angel Cotto retire

There was something in El Vocero (Puerto Rico newspaper) in which confidants of Cotto were recommending he retire from boxing and enjoy life. He apparently has some business ventures there and they're doing well according to his people.

Would this be a loss to the sport if he hangs em up or would you all understand if he retires?

Well it would be a smart move on his part, there is basically only one fight left he really has to win, everything else is a bonus, I think he should have 3 fights then hang them up.

3-4 fights and he may need to start looking at retirement. He's nowhere near shot.

If he can make further improvements to his defensive abilities, I think he can be at the top again.

Do you really want to see the Margarito rematch? I'd rather see him vs. Cintron, or even a Clottey rematch believe it or not or against P. Williams or Berto or even Lara.

I def don't think he's a shot fighter. I figure if he's still got the hunger, keep goin.

Well a Margo rematch wont do **** for boxing, but it I think it will do wonders for Cotto, when he destroys Margo's face. I think Cotto needs the rematch to get his confidence, self esteem & dignity back, and when he does, I think we will see a revitalised Cotto. Who wouldn't want that?

I wanna see him KTFO of Margocheato, but after that he will never be higher than 6th or 7th in his block. 147-160.
Retire early and enjoy the fruits of your labor.

I agree but what if he loses again. From the first fight, I do recall him landing a ton of solid shots on Marg and he did not even seem slightly bothered one bit. So if he gains tons of confidence with a win, a loss sends him to depression.

But these things happen, its boxing. Arum has been clever in giving Cotto, 2 easy confidence building fights @ a higher weight, and I can seriously see some improvements that compliment Cotto's style.

I noticed Cotto is slipping/rolling much more than he ever did, brawling less and using his boxing skills and excellent jab & conserving his energy/stamina by lowering his work rate. His shot placement seems better.

This is something Floyd had to do when he moved up to WW and it worked perfectly.

I think Cotto smashes up Margo and puts on some great fights after. I would love to see a revitalised, improved Cotto vs Floyd.

cottos punch resistance isnt very good at 147+ . He's taken some beatings now too. I dunno if he should retire, but he's got to improve his defense at least.

It wouldn't be a bad idea to retire soon. Let him leave while he's still close to being on top and has his health and all his marbles left. The real question is if he feels the need to go on, and/or to revenge any losses, accomplish anything more, or to get a few more paydays before retiring.

He's on a pretty big decline.. too many wars and poor defense for far too long..

I wouldn't be sad to see him retire. He's had a very entertaining career.

One more big fight, then he can hang them up, although I think Steward can extend his career.
