Why didn't Oscar vs Tito 2 happen??

Tito didn't want it. Hoya beat him easily in the first fight and everyone knows it. Tito got the decision and was crowned the welterweight champ. He felt no reason to take another paycut and wasn't overly interested in another fight tbh. Hard to claim he ducked hoya since he went on to fight a lot of top names.

 

You DO realize the last 4 rounds of that fight "didn't happen" because Oscar said he did not want to feel Tito's power anymore. He certainly did not want to avenge his loss either. The money would have been great regardless of BS percentage points. Oscar knew this and STILL refused the rematch.


I know you were 12 when your uncle watched this fight and yo played with your Nintendo in the other room... But please stop pretending you watched this fight. :hi:

Oscar did not want the rematch. End of story.

Tito did enough to get the win.

The rematch didn't happen because Tito got caught cheating and was exposed as a fraud like rest. Juanma also got caught cheating like resto

 

Well For Tito wanted 50/50 split in the first fight prove that he was very greedy big time. This was Tito first ever big main event ppv fight vs the biggest draw in boxing but wants a 50/50 split for the first fight? Yea Tito can draw but not close to Oscar drawing power level. And look after the first fight Oscar ppv buys has been way highers then Tito ppv buys. So if Tito wasn't being a greedy knucklehead, the rematch would have happen. And Oscar was right, Tito would have got a bigger payday vs him then vs Hopkins back in 01.

 

To his wife. It's the defacto rule with Ricans. They always lose after getting caught with an affair; it never interferes wioth the training, mentality or whatever; but afterwards they magically lose.

De La Hoya claims in his autobiography that a) he didnt want to rematch Tito because he was so confident he won the fight , and b) Tito killed negotiations by pricing himself out .

They subsequently went there seperate ways and didnt manage to get the rematch done .

 

Bottom line is that DLH officially lost the fight, and he was criticized badly in the press for running a trackmeet the last several rounds.

True champions want vindication, but DLH was'nt about that. His ego did not let him split the financial end of the fight which would have got the fight made.


.....and the reality of this whole issue was that prior to their first meeting, Don King and Felix Trinidad repeatedly preached during the promotional tour that the financial splits would be reversed when Tito beat DLH and he wanted a rematch.

......for anyone that was around back then and remembers the post fight press conference with Don King smiling from ear to ear and yelling I believe it was, "75/25 Tito Trinidad and we'll glady grant DLH a rematch."

Lets be honest, DLH was never eager to grant anyone that beat him or gave him a real fight a rematch.

Quartey, Whitaker, Trinidad, Mosley (it took years when it could have been much sooner and at 147 lbs), and even Bernard Hopkins (seeing that DLH actually thought he was beating Hopkins when he took his dive):nut

.....so judging from DLH's history of not liking to grant rematches. I think its safe to say he did'nt want the Trinidad rematch.
