Enzo Calzaghe: Underrated or Overrated?

Beter than most trainers on our shores, hes far underrated now than he was before. I dont even think he was overrated before, most ****s hated him!!

 

As David Haye once put it:

"You could have a team of ******ed monkeys together to train Joe Calzaghe and he would still have become world champion"

 

hmm, Froch would suit Enzo ..

 

Enzo Calzaghe's problem was that he never truly made the jump to big time.

He stuck with the Vauxhall People Carrier long after his fighters had outgrown it.

He didn't have to be flash and buy a Range Rover Sport or an Audi Q7, but ...

In January 2008 he could have got a tidy deal for a Hyundai Santa Fe from Holley Motors in Cwmbran.

Enzo Mac must have mentioned the good deals available on a Sportage from Gravells Kia in Kidwelly.

Enzo Calzaghe wouldn't listen.

He believed that the Vauxhall was good enough.

History tells us otherwise.

 

The age he came into the sport and what he got out of it, the guys a true master. Got loads to offer, its a shame he`s turned his back on boxing.

 

Enzo taught Lockett everything he knows about training Rees.

Calzaghe could have developed with Freddy Roach perhaps, either way Calzaghe was going to be by far the best fighter of his generation, whether it was throuugh volume punching or more orthodox boxing.

 

I think the stable's success was down to Joe more than
Enzo. I'm not saying Enzo was bad, but he wasn't spectacular either.

 

This. Enzo's a clown and Joe would have made it with a ****** in his corner with ****** using his own over the hill Eubank as fodder and then 10 years of defences against Chumps!

Joe Calzaghe has never lost a fight with Enzo Calzaghe in the corner.

But it wasn't just Joe - Enzo Calzaghe had been credited with taken Enzo Maccarenelli under his wing and transforming him from a crude banger to a excellent techincal boxer. He also done the impossible and turned a little name like Gavin Rees into a WBA World Light Welterweight Champion.

There was a stage when Enzo Calzaghe had never lost a world title fight that he had been in the corner of.

He has been recongised as THE RING trainer of the year.

However:
All the Calzaghe Camp were under the banner of Frank ****** sports network who have a reputation for making their fighters paper champions and protecting them. All these great wins from Camp Calzaghe came under ideal circumstances: Enzo awarded WBO belt.
Gavin Rees wan WBA belt in Cardiff home ground.

But it cannot be ignored that when these fighters have stepped out of Sports network confort zone they have been found wanting.

First Enzo Maccarenelli whatever excuse they want to put on it - he was blown away inside two rounds.

Then Gavin Rees was stopped late and lost his belt.

And Gary Lockett stepped up to fight Kelly Pavlik and was beaten up with ease.

Enzo Maccarenelli speaking on YOUTUBE assured that these fighters from the camp including himself will come back "badder and stronger"
but will they.

I am starting to think that apart from Joe Calzaghe who is exceptional the rest of the camp were overhyped including Enzo Calzaghe.


will they just go back to the WBO/WBU confort zone?

Or can these fighters win real world title fights and prove themselves real world class?
