I don't think Litzau expected to get hit with the other 5 unanswered punches before calculating a possible knee.
There have been multiple fights lately where a fighter should have taken a knee, with in some cases it would have pobably won him the fght. But pride, disorientation, lack of experience or pure stupidity caused them not to. I thnk trainers should pay more attnion to that in training. And make clear to the figher there's no shame in it. Better as getting knocked tf out.
Because it is not encouraged. You fight 'til the end. I don't blame Litzau for trying to be brave but in the end, that's how fighters get hurt, or even killed in some cases.
They would probably take another follow up shot while their going down that they couldnt block. Plus if theyre hurt bad and trying to survive it may not be in their instinct to drop down because that is a last resort, not something you normally do but on the flip side theyre not thinking clearly and logically, theyre too busy trying to survive.
Its called pride. Some fighters don't want to do it out of pride. Manfredy vs Mayweather. He was getting bombed, but never took a knee to regroup Cotto Vs Margarito. He took a knee, and that was a sign that he was on his last legs. I feel that boxers would rather physically quit in a match, than to mentally quit. Meaning rather get wobbled/knocked out than to take a knee and admit defeat
:blood Quitting seems unacceptable. Taking a knee is like the opposite of quitting (as long as you get up before the end of the count). It shows you still want to win and are looking to preserve yourself to give yourself the best chance of regrouping. Anything you do in order to prolong your chances of winning is fair game. Anyone who feels otherwise is an idiot.
Those who have been in the ring will generally understand better. I only know from sparring, so could only imagine what it's like on the big stage. Hell sparring in front of enough people gets me a bit nervous haha. Nerves also play a big factor I think. Sometimes you just can't think after you get hit with a huge shot that doesn't put you down, then a barrage of punches follows it. So instead because your legs are still there you try to withstand the assault, as it's just how fighters work sometimes. Sometimes it's only pride, but most of the time it's pride and the inability to think of what to do. There are times when something like a body shot just cripples you to a knee, or just in a ball on the mat, that's different. That's blunt force pain, and what I mean is body shots feel dramatically different than head shots in reference to pain, and your thought process thereafter. But I think taking a knee at the right time is almost like a art in boxing. A good recent reference would be Judah vs Matthysse. Judah's knee won him the fight imo. But with that it can cost you a fight. It's a very veteran thing to take a knew imo. And Litzau should've taken a knee yes, but he couldn't think straight unfortunately.
He was hurt wtf!!!???. To say he should've gone to a knee when it all happened so fast is almost selfish. You've never been under that kind of pressure.
