British fighters need to step up at 20 - 0 , not 40 - 0 then get beaten up

agree with this, Khan certainly stepped up early hes only 24 and will have unified two belts at 140 when he beats Judah

i think some of the problem is competition....After 15 or 20 fights i think many of those guys stagnate.. cant be fighting the same homegrown comp....And the other reason is siimple there just not that good and havent been exposed yet.

I totally dispute that. Britain is one of the biggest boxing nations in the world. The game as a whole has declined but in terms of boxing as a national industry I believe it goes in this order... America, England, Germany, then Canada. You could argue places like Mexico and Puerto Rica have more fans per head but they don't have the economy to be able to support a big domestic scene.

If you don't believe me, you only have to look at the numbers in the esb British forum. It's never too far away from the numbers in the general forum.

Well done for mentioning boxers that never had the quality to step up to world level.

Maybe two......Kell Brook will be fighting for a world title soon. Ryan Rhodes did fight for a world title back in 1997 and he went up in weight to do it.

I both agree and disagree. I think solid Euro level fighters should have stepped it up earlier. People like Kell Brook, Kevin Mitchell and John Murray would fit in this category. I put this down to poor promotion.

However, if you're just not that good, it's in your best interests to pad your record until you get your break. Happens quite frequently in Ireland. Look at the Hyland brothers, all have padded records. Paulie got a pay day he never would have got in fighting for the Euro title against Casey. Had Paulie Hyland stepped up the competition earlier against the likes of Scott Quigg before he got his Euro shot, he would have lost and ruined his chance of that big shot. There was a slim chance he could have caused the upset and beaten Casey also.

It was the same with Andy Murray, had he fought Kevin Mitchell or John Murray before he got his title shot against Rees, he'd have lost and his chance of getting back into Euro contention would be very slim.

Not really. At least not to the same degree. Japanese prospects are usually stepping up to fight for national titles at around 10 fights.

If they can make good money fighting cans as they rise then why not?

Take a look at Calzaghe's career.

Are you for real , look at the names in bold they are only world champions because they either fought for vacant belts or the ****ing WBO.

The more you post the more you strengthen my point. thanks.
