maybe not abject poverty but he's living in his old gym in some rough neighbourhood. he's a pretty humble guy so maybe he prefers these surroundings but surly he could be living comfortably as a upper middle class man at least. i know about his failed business and money lost through property but shouldn't he be able to earn money through tv appearances and exhibitions alone? he's one of the greatest heavey weight fighters of all time who was involved in probably the most important rivalries in any sport in any era.
the guys a legend who should be treated like a national treasure not simply forgotten. mainly because with out frazier's rivalry ali's impact in the sporting world wouldn't have been so great.

If this is the case with Frazier, he's not the only once famous fighter who now lives a meager life.

I think Leon SPinks works a fast food job, and some other famous fighter was on a website a few months ago due to being in a homeless shelter.

I think alot of these guys are overwhelmed with the money they make, too much, too fast, and fall prey to parasites and their own lack of control over lavish spending. Just my guess, but sad situation, regardless.

yeah its probably frazier's fault in some ways but at the same time i do think america chews up and spits out its ex sporting stars. its not like frazier was in and out of jail or acting like thug therefore being bad role model. he was always pretty humble and polite on tv. just not articulate or really charismatic like ali. look how we treat our old heavy weight champions like bruno and cooper.

Whatever the reason(s), it's a ****in' shame that a top-10 ATG HW, pushing 70, doesn't have a decent living stipend.

Maybe bad money management..and he also didn't make as much as Ali so he had less room for error regarding his money.

Most boxers (and athletes altogether) are complete idiots when it comes to money. Absolutely clueless. They usually have very little education per se and even less financial education. Holyfield, Tyson, Bowe, Frazier etc. etc.

Heck even someone like RJJ who I thought would be clever enough appears to have liquidity problems, owing the IRS money. Incredible.

exactly.... if frazier moved to england he'd be a rich man from showing at gyms and sports events. the guy's an absolute legend. like you said a top 10 atg HY.

my guess is that now people cant make money out of him there not interested. that's the society we live in.

Somewhat off topic, but wouldn't it be awesome if Joe Frazier was hired as a special guest commentator for the Wlad-Haye fight?
