Would modern Wlad simply chose to jab Sanders for 8 or 9 rounds until he was softened up enough to go for the KO? Or would have Sanders still been able to attack him and get the ko?
Wlad would jab him to death for a few rds rds until Sanders was tired and then stop him IMO. He took him lightly and paid the price.
Hard to say. Watching sanders v vitali, considering vitali is a genius and knows what's coming, he still lands that counter left. However vitali is much more aggressive than wlad. I think wlad dominates sanders early on just as he did in the first two minutes of the fight, but this time he clinches rather than goes in for the kill. After a couple of rounds sanders becomes a punching bag and gets knocked out cold. Sanders is not a good heavyweight. He beat a young wlad but his career shows that's all he did. Wlad of today is a great heavyweight. We'll never know the answer obviously but I think it's fair to say wlad would be a big favourite and since 04 he has been a much better fighter than he was previously.
todays wlad is to good for sanders, he would jab him on the outside all the time soften him up for the kill
Wlad would win. Honestly, any prepared version of Wlad with his head on straight win that fight. Sanders would have always been a dangerous opponent for anyone. However, Wlad was clearly unprepared for what Corrie brought to the table. I had never seen him look so lazy in the ring. He just found out Sanders was his opponent 4 weeks before the fight after 11 or 12 other opponents declined. Nobody in the world was even interested in the fight because everyone thought that Corrie Sanders was absolutely finished and the fight would be a walk over. People were laughing about the weigh in pictures of Corrie Sanders, how ordinary he looked. People are completely overplaying this "stylistic nightmare" stuff. He simply landed the right punch at the right time, followed up strong, and capitalized on Wlad's lazy mistake. Congrats to Corrie for pulling it off and a learning experience for Wlad. Lightning would not have struck twice. Wlad said in an interview not long after that fight... "It's easy to say that you aren't going to underestimate an opponent, but it's not so easy to put the same effort into your training when you really don't think you can lose the fight". Wlad let himself be sucked right into Sanders gameplan of backing up along the ropes. Just baiting Wlad in so he could counter. Then, Wlad's big mistake was when he overextended on a lazy punch and then backed straight up with his gloves down. Sanders came leaping off of the ropes and landed a huge straight left. Wlad took it like a champ, but he was buzzed... and from that point forward he was in waters that he had never been before. Instead of buying some time to clear out the cobwebs, he planted his feet and began trying to trade punches when he wasn't all there. Sanders landed SEVERAL hard flush punches before Wlad went down. The first knockdown being a combination of a left hook and a serious clash of heads directly after the left hook that sandwiched his head in between and split his eye open from the headbutt. After that it was just all heart as Wlad continued to get up and fight on when he had no legs and no idea how to handle that type of situation. In the end... that is the best thing that ever happened to Wladimir Klitschko. He realized that he could lose on any night if he wasn't prepared and the next step was getting with Manny Steward. Since Manny has completely took over the rest is history.
It would be even worse than before. Wlad doesn't have the speed and reflexes he had when he was younger, so it would allow Sanders to close the distance even faster and pin Wlad against the ropes. Wlad would once again go down without getting hit, as he did the second knockdown against Sanders in the last fight. If you can get inside Klitschko's range, he's rendered helpless. He attempted to box and keep his distance against Sanders the first time, but he failed miserably. Wlad would once again get destroyed.
