In 1999 tiny bit past-prime Tyson was so very frustrated by past-prime druggie Norris, he KO'd him with a illegal punch after teh bell!! What if, in his first world title defense, Tyson chose to fight NABF champ Prime Norris in Feb 1989, instead of Bruno? Imagine this is teh best Orlin Norris who decisioned Greg Page in 1989, cos he would be fighting Tyson, not Page, if he was given teh title shot he proper deserved for his hard work! Prime Norris was a v.clever boxer, And had faster hands then Tyson. Could Orlin survive teh early storm to win a decision?? IMO Tyson wins by TKO6, But if Norris lasts to Round 7 when Tyson will be gassed, teh judges decision is up for grabs for both men! :bbb

Video of Tyson VS Norris from 1999

Norris found it easy to time teh predictable headmovement of Tyson with his fast jab.

When I saw Orlin take a well conditioned Greg Page to the schoolhouse, I truly believed he had what it took to frustrate and outbox Tyson, and suspected he might be the one to eventually dethrone Mike by decision. I didn't think Tyson would particularly like taking on a talented cutie his own size. With knee injuries against Bert Cooper and Mike, he never could have made it on the gridiron.

Incidentally, Orlin is the second most prolific HW Titlist in NABF history. Number one? Muhammad Ali!

With all respect to Norris I think taking on Bruno was both the braver and the financially smarter move. Tyson must not be blamed for ducking Norris if taking on Bruno was his reason .
I don't think Tyson would have gotten Norris out as quickly as he did the majority of his opponents .
Also remember Tyson was actually the younger man against Norris and would have been so any year , and if Norris was really a druggie , then he could have been even better and it just shows that his talent was even greater than I thought.

A tiny bit past his prime? I think it was more than that. Tyson was past his prime ever since he got out of prison.

    Tyson.

I'd give Norris a decent chance of going the distance though. He was a clever fighter, and fast.

Norris was not a past his prime druggie in my opinion at all... i never heard anything about drugs mentioned in Orlin's career.. he was definitely past his prime though

Tyson offed a wussy Norris inside a round by a late shot, but Norris was there for his check...... Norris of '89 was more so slick, but Tyson still waxes his ass pretty quickly...... Norris feared Tyson....

    True. :good

It was Tyson who was snorting coke like a hoover and smoking spliffs like a rasta at the time, he was the druggie.

Norris doesn't have the neccessary lateral movement, strength, and power to beat him bottom line. He'd be fighting in the danger zone all night and would eventually get clipped.

Id pick the 9 version of Tyson to beat any Norris

No smaller fighter would ever beat Tyson (just as taller, bigger foes gave him problems)

I think Tyson only ever fought 3 guys who were smaller, Frazier, Spinks and Norris....we all know how each of those ended.

Orlin Norris never beats Tyson, certainly not in 1989.
