He is on the brink of superstardom.
You remember he is only 20 years old.
He has all of Mexico backing him, Mexicans in the US, and beginning to build a following around the world.

How can you improve his career so he is on the correct path to superstardom.

    What opponent do you choose?
Next fight in the US or in Mexico or in another location?
Play up the "look" to gain the Irish crowd?

    What I think:

[*]Angulo is to much right now for Canelo. Perro is a live dog against anyone who would sit there in bang. Canelo would do that and I think Perro would be relentless.

[*]Mayorga is my choice. He talks a lot of **** (would call attention), just fought Cotto which would give you a decent measuring stick as to where Canelo is at this point.

[*]If I was Canelo I would love to be the co-feature PPV bout when Mayweather v. Ortiz. Talk about exposure worldwide.

[*]Next fight I believe should be in Mexico so he has the spotlight on his own in Mexico and let Mayweather and Ortiz have theirs in Vegas, plus the gate in Guadalajara would be nice also:good.

[*]I would have him play the Irish thing. Imagine if he would embrace it. Chicago, New York, Ireland (defender of the Irish people against the Brits).

[*]This would expose Canelo to a whole new audience that money-making machine De La Hoya never even had.
    [/LIST]

    What do you people think?

Vegas, Staples Center & Home Depo Center should be his home base.
(I think we may have seen the last of the fights in Mexico for a while)

Next I would match him in a "Showcase" fight possibly on the Ortiz/Mayweather card.
Or for the week after to be played on HBO side by side w.The Ortiz/Mayweather replay.

    (^Against: Mayorga or Martyrosian)

Have him Fight in the Southwest. With a guy like him he doesn't need to have a true home city just as long as the fight is in the South West, or Chicago he would do well in live gate.

If its big quick money then have him fight Omar Chavez then have a revenge fight against JCC Jr.

But in terms of development, I understand he is only 20, but the guy is a world titlist, he needs to unify so the next fight should be a unification against K-9.

I don't think I'd fear to many fighters to put him against. No exact plans, but I wouldn't be afraid to put him against Angulo. Cintron beat that fool!
I'd honestly be more afraid of Mayorga than Angulo. Cuz Angulo doesn't hit all that hard, but yet Mayorga does pack some power. I don't think either guy Alvarez struggles that much with.
I would give him some to develop though before taking on the likes of Cotto, Paul Williams (if he's at 154), etc.

Enough bullshittin'!!!!!!!!! Put him in their with Cotto now. Time to separate the men from the boys.

While we're on the subject, put Chavez Jr in with Martinez. Time to separate the contenders from the pretenders.

No one is going to let the mob feed Omar to this young lion! Isn't Omar too small anyway? I say bring him to Chicago so I can watch live.

Mayorga hasn't beaten a legit opponent in about five years. He is only a pro at this point because of the technicality that he receives a paycheck. Rhodes would beat the **** out of Mayorga probably worse than Cotto did. At 154 Cotto is not at Alvarez's level. Cotto's a great fight if your looking to step on Cotto and build up Alvarez. I agree that Williams should be avoided at this point.

Let him beat up another britfags, so the Irish can feel like they're getting their piece too. Imagine the 1st Mexican fighter who also has a huge Irish following.

i would enroll him in some intensive english classes to ease his crossover appeal in the future when he starts to get the super fights. with his looks and his style he should be easy to sell to americans.
i would get him a top conditioning coach. i think he needs to increase the intensity in his fights because it seems like he was taking too many rests in his last fight.
i would be looking for a fight against cotto in the near future. the mex-pr rivalry will sell the fight and i dont see cotto blowing him out so as long as its competetive, a loss could be chalked up to his youth.
i would try to get him as much exposure as possible in order to start making him a household name. attend all the big fights, tv commercials for the spanish stations, etc...
i dont think it will be long before he outgrows 154 so i would start studying martinez and start drilling the tactics needed to beat him and then wait for the right time to take him down in a fight that would put him amongst the elite.
keep him focused on the goal which is to make him bigger than chavez was at the height of his popularity.

If I promoted canelo I would definitely have him face mayorga next.... the mostt logical choice as a Co feauture with mayweather in a seperate location...

Angulo should also have a tune up and later down the road after he has re established himself.. these 2 bad ass Mexicans should get it on.
