Doesnt make it right though Popkins. Yes Fedor could probably make 205 but ask yourself this could Fedor make 185 ? HELL NO but can Henderson can and we know that for a fact. Fedor is a much bigger fighter.
Henderson does not cut weight to get to 205Ibs. He moved up because at his age even cutting twenty pounds was stating to **** up his conditioning.
They both have bludgeoning right hands and iron chins, don't see a stoppage either way. I see a competitive fight where Hendo manages to survive, or Fedor subbing Dan. A knockout either way would be a huge shock IMO, but if either man does have the chance to score a K.O it's the man who's right hand has sparked bigger blokes, and who is the naturally bigger guy.
I agree with you. I've always thought Fedor was small for a heavyweight, and I'm sure Hendo walks around well over 205, but if neither fighter has aspirations of changing weight classes, whats the point? Don't see how it could help either fighter in the rankings or what it proves. I really do want to see this fight, don't get me wrong... but both fighters have everything to lose and nothing to gain, Hendo wins-he knocked out a well out of his prime Fedor, Fedor wins-he beat a much smaller Henderson. I shouldn't complain, two heavy handed hall of famers going at it is a gift to the fans.
Hendo doesn't walk around well over 205. As Will has already said, he doesn't cut weight to make 205, and he only fights at 205 because making 185 was talking it's toll on his body. While you're right, this fight does nothing for the rankings, and it doesn't really prove anything, it's a great fight for the fans, which is what it should be all about. I think that's something a lot of people are forgetting these days. If Hendo wins, he gets Fedor on his resume, even at this point in his career, that is an amazing feat. If he loses, he lost to the bigger, more experienced and (almost universally) better fighter. For Fedor, this is a win he desperately needs. If he loses, particularly if he gets knocked out he will almost certainly retire. If he wins, smaller man or not, he gets back in with the W's and goes into his next HW fight with a bit of momentum.
So now fights are only legitimate if the two fighters are only physically able to make the weight divisions? :huh Wanderlei Silva now makes 185 with ease, yet I don't recall too many people complaining when he was fighting Crocop and Fujita in Pride, two guys who could never make 205 when Wanderlei himself was a 205lbs fighter. Vitor Belfort now makes 185 with ease, and he has been in with Randy Couture, Heath Herring, Gilbert Yvel, Tank Abbott. Kazushi Sakuraba was a middleweight, and he fought the likes of Kimo, Igor Vovchanchyn, Crocop, Rampage, L'il Nog, Randleman, Arona, Ken Shamrock etc. I could go on, but it would be boring and the point has already been made. What would MMA be without fighters like Hendo, Wandy, Vitor and Saku, who would fight anyone and everyone out there??? If a guy has the talent and the balls, we should respect and appreciate the fights they give us. If Hendo, the 205 champion, wants to fight Fedor, a guy who is 230 at his heaviest, I really don't see ANY issue with this at all. JMHO. This is MMA, where guys like Thiago Alves, Anthony Johnson and Nate Marquhardt make a mockery of the weight system anyway. Let the top guys fight if they want to I say, and just enjoy it!
i remember seeing him in an interview where he said that in between fights he walks around at around 220 lbs
I will enjoy it and I do give props to the guys who sought out the biggest and toughest challenges. Im just pointing out fact and that is Fedor is at the least a full 20 pound weight class larger then Henderson is. Im intrigued by this fight and I am exicted for it but it still rubs me wrong. If Fedor wanted Henderson why couldnt he meet him at like 215 or something ? Instead his managment has him fight a much smaller guy that he will probably beat and then the whole world will go ape**** and pretend like the last couple fights where flukes.
