Is Canelo the most complete 20 year old you have ever seen?

What world class fighters had Naz fought by the age of 20? :huh

Did Rhodes look like he had any firepower in the fight to you? He certainly didn't look like it to me. Canelo was blowing his punches off his shoulders like dandruff.

    In the past 15 years?

Well, Mayweather hadn't really stepped up his level of competition yet by the age of 20, nor had Oscar.

Probably the only guy from that era who was as good by the age of 20 was Tito Trinidad, but it was 1993 when he was taking the title from Maurice Blocker, so longer than 15 years ago. Yeah, Canelo probably is the best 20 year old I can think of from the past 15 years.

Yea exactly. I really need to clarify that. I did do a follow up post clearing it up as the OP makes me sound like i am either a fan boy or dont know my boxing.

I know there has been many in the past but since i have been watching boxing no.

I agree but Felix Trinidad was a solid WW champ at 20 as well.

JUlio never got past hot prospect stage.. SO whos to say he eever was that good? First time he stepped up he lost to Quintana.

Shouldnt be mentioned in the same sentence with those proven world champs.

Panchito Bojado had some great skills, power for an 18 year old,, The way he was going i was positive hed be a world champ and one of the top pf o stars bt 20.... That guy just showed no improvement after his first handful of fights and peaked as a teenager. He believed his press clippings, and acted primadonna when still a prospect.. I have a couple friends/Acquatences that knew him and trained at the same gym,, and he just flat out didnt like to train, liked to party and wasnt hungry(only for food).. Panchito weighs like 220 now and heard works in a warehouse.... And to think he is still only in his late 20s or maybe 30.

Matthew Hilton was another impressive young guy who won a title real young and just fizzed out real fast.( although i think Drugs and ALcohol ruined him)

Vargas had just turned 21 only a few days before dominating.. Then then still Good Yori boy Campas for the JM title... Had also already beaten solid fringe contenders like Anthony Stephens,ROmalis ellis.. Vargas was almost peaking already and i think better than Canelo is righ now.

AND OUTSIDE OF Beinitez , Cuevas was the most proven and the highest regarded 20 yr old om modern jhstory.. He was peaing and had just about punched his ticket to the HOF.. Never a poished figher,...but one of the very few to already be one of the elite fighters pfp at that age... Had already kod very oood Espadad twice and defended his title 6 times against the touhgest challengers available.

To be honest Canelo is doing everything right with the opposition that is in front of him . But really look at his last four opponents and they are not the calibre of a WBC 154 champion.

He has a good attitude and some good attributes , but I dont see this great 'Oscar de la Hoya' everyone is talking about.

He has yet to be in with a mover or a puncher , right now he is getting names .

Put him in with Cotto and we will see a different outcome.

If anybody says that its too soon , then well he shouldnt be the WBC champion.

If anything i think Cotto would be one of the easiest fights for Canelo at 154. As far as top names go.
I dont see Cotto having any one single advantage over Canelo.
I would feel safer if i was Canelos management putting him in with Cotto than Angulo, Dzinzurik, Lara, Wolak, and possibly PW.

To me the true litmus test would be Angulo. We know Canelo can box pretty well. The only thing we need to see is him dealing with a big hard punching pressure fighter with stamina.

Neglected by non mexican boxers, body work is a specialty of all Mexican boxers.I often get cranky when prospects don't invest to the body and it's stupid not too. It's hard to recover from a body shot. Like Morris East said. Walang matibay pag ma tata maan jan pre. No one is tough when hit to the body.It will take it's toll later on.
