Hi classic, it your friendly neighborhood Hoooooook here, was Mikey Tyson BETTER in 1996 Bruno 2 then in 1989 Bruno 1? Tyson was 100% PEAK 1989 Bruno 1 when he did his 1st title defense - BUT he looked BETTER in 1996 Bruno 2 IMO. Could this dispel teh myth Tyson was ruined by jailhouse buttrape in teh chokey? :huh

    Simple

In 1989, Bruno came to fight and in 1996, he just came there and stood there and waited for Tyson to KO him.

Its more due to Bruno than Tyson

I don't know about Tyson, but Bruno looked scared and out of his depth both times, hanging on to Mike's neck for dear life and hyperventilating.
In 1989 he was given absolutely no chance in the British press and did better than expected.
1996 he was given a decent chance and did worse than expected.

Bruno didnt look or fight scared against Tyson in 89. He actually fought pretty well and was definitely more atheletic in 89. He held on to everyones head he faced while he rabbit punched them on the side of the head. It was dirty foul that he did to everyone.

    Its all down to Bruno.

In their first encounter he was healthy both mentaly and physicaly and came to win.

He was suffering from a detached retina in the second fight, his mental health was deteriorating, he had a panic attack on the way to the ring.

He shouldn't even have been alowed to fight.

In 89, Bruno was fighting a Tyson who was knee deep in turmoil, was at his overconfidence peak, had 8 months ring rust since his last fight and i dont think Tyson had been training all too well. (The staredown says everything when Tyson looked away). Theres a short documentary somewhere on Youtube about the fight and Bruno states hes going to take advantage of Tysons current situation and beat him

In 96, Bruno was champ, he should have done better, but Tyson probably had the mental edge on him as hed already beaten him before.

Yeah, Bruno said that - and it proved to be a good point - but nobody gave him a chance. Bruno had been out of the ring 16 months. Not that it would make any difference. He never beat anything like a live world-class opponent.

Tyson definitely had the mental edge. Mentality was always a large part of Bruno's limitations.

Just rewatched round 1. Tyson knocked him down in the first round, drew blood in the first round. Bruno did basically nothing but throw plenty of hooks when in the clinch (hmm lucky there wasnt a skilled in fighter like say jim jeffries or jack Johnson in there, just kidding). Bruno loses a point or so the commentary says presumably for hitting in the clinch. And he lands one clean two punch combo in the whole fight. So that makes it a 10-7 round and everybody says Tyson must be in poor form and Bruno is right on his game. Lucky Tyson didnt have a good day! Might have been a 10-4 round.

It doesnt take an expert to see Tyson was pretty dam sloppy in that fight, even getting tagged and staggered while standing flat footed and loading up.
