There isn't a legitimate poster on here who didn't want Ricky to beat Martinez, and there isn't a legit poster on here who doesn't want Ricky to do well.

You've obviously got the trolls, but **** those clowns. The long time hardcore of ESB Brit Forum want Ricky to succeed.

But you have to remember, whenever a Scottish fighter got near a World Title, we were sold the vision of packed out football stadium, electric atmospheres and top fights.

Instead we've got Evenson, Laryea and a crap Cook.

We all want him to do well, and as soon as a big fight is announced you'l see that :good

 

Burns is not a world champ, he is a very good domestic operator who is improvng but to call him a world champ is an absolute insult to all the real champs out there. I like burns but come on...

In a way the man has a point.

''World champions'' should fight world class fighters. Unfortunately, apart from beating Martinez, Burns hasn't yet done that - it's a fact.

However, any criticism ought to be levelled at Allegedly rather than either Burns or Nelson.

I think the problem Billy has (though he may correct me on this if I'm wrong) is that he's obviously going to be defensive of his man, which can at times prevent him from being objective on the issue, and secondly he can't say what he really thinks because his views are free to air on here.

Burns needs to face a Ring top 10 ranked fighter next. If he'd faced Cook in his first defence I'm sure many of us would have shrugged our shoulders and said ''ok, fair enough''.

Instead we got a tiny fella from Norway and then a taxi driver who any half decent fighter could have beaten.

If they are wanting men with name value, look at domestic names such as Buckland :yep

 

Buckland isn't a world level challenger either. It just shows how low our expectations are now.

 

This isn't a troll but Burns still hasn't proven he's any better than British level. One win against an ill puncher doesn't make you the world champion. He failed to win the British title before and Frank then swerved him onto the commonwealth bauble and an alphabelt. Burns against Sykes or Buckland are 50/50 fights IMO.

The most disappointing thing is that Burns is clearly getting better and could well prove to be higher than this level if only he was given a chance. As it is though, all 3 'world championship' defences have been lower than British level :-(

 

Well said, although he is a World champion. He may not be proven, and that's why he's getting the stick (well fish eyes is getting the stick) As soon as he beats a Broner, Litzau, Fana or Ponce De leon calibre of fighter he'll get his due respect as did Hatton and Calzaghe and Froch, It's not been a year yet though, so judgement should be reserved... Just a shame no big fights have been mentioned yet.

 

Evensen laryea and Martinez aren't everybody in the sfw division Ricky burns is nowhere near the fastest in the division Billy.

 

Go on Ukwingchun's prediction for the martinez fight last year. I picked Burns to outbox Martinez fairly easily.

 

The night Burns beat Martinez was fantastic. But these 3 defences have been poor. That is the reason Burns, Billy and Fish eyes are getting abuse! Not because he's scottish or any bull**** like that. We simply want our lads to prove themselves at world level, when he does that I and 90% of the people on this forum will praise and support him. Ricky seems like a good lad but he needs to go to Frank warens office kick his door off and demand a unification fight or a defence against a legitimate contender.

You talk some **** mate,Burns school's sykes and buckland,weve even asked Sykes to spar on at least 4 occasions and it was a simple NO THANK YOU! WHY? because they know what would happen

 

With all due respects Billy as good as the performance against martinez was, I hardly call the next 3 fights anything to be proud of mate. Lets hope and pray that we acutally get a world title defence sometime in the next year

to say that hes the same as the other british 130 guys is a disgrace , who have they beat that is anywhere as good as martinez.
