    My extract comes from:
    "Bells Life in London" [Boxiana]
    I've no idea which version is correct.
    As to the length of his reign the book states;
    "Broughton held the title of Champion for 18 years ,but in the end was compelled to surrender his laurels to one,[Slack] who was almost destitute of science but who nevertheless by an accidental blow succeeded in wresting from his high position".
    Their fight is described as lasting 14 minutes.

    It goes on to describe their fight and dates it as,Tuesday April 10th 1750, fought at Broughton's Amphitheatre it gives Broughtons height as 5'8.5" and his weight as just under 14stone Slack as 14 stone and a little taller. Broughton's backer, the Duke Of Cumberland declared that Broughton took a dive against Slack and severed connection with him. Broughton never fought again

    Well from what I read in Boxiana Broughton's time had simply arrived and Slack was just too much to handle, The Duke of Cumberland aka the Butcher of Culloden was being a big sook... no way was the fight thrown. Slack was no slouch, was not beaten for nearly a decade after he won this. Slack was not very scientific but he was a difficult very tough and very experienced customer. George Taylor did beat Slack before Slack won the title but again Taylor was a great fighter.

    Just wondering how you came by these articles.. I tried google newspapers and no hope of finding any newspapers from the 18th century.
