    Question:

Seeing as there is no difference in the point given for a jab and a power punch, why is a clean jab utilized sparingly in amateur boxing, when it gets from A to B quickest?

Very scrappy. Campbell will have to up his game to medal - very tough division with the Cuban, Mexican and Nevin.

    Based on today's performances definitely.

Campbell's won Euro gold so you'd hope he can perform a lot better than this

He didn't, but the Italian was a bit of a nightmare really and I expect Campbell to look better against a more conventional fighter.

He got through his first fight, he can settle a bit now. I expect him to get to the quarters.

they only give credit for stiff punches so a slappy jab a la calzaghe won't count. also you need variety. if the boxers were only jabbing it wouldnt be hard not to get hit.

Am I being unfair here? A lot of the Olympic boxing has been second rate and really scrappy. The refs are often officious little pricks as well.

  15. Anyone watching the Nevin fight earlier hear any abuse from the crowd? I was sat next to a complete nutcase who spent the full 3 hours of the afternoon session going on about how everyone was ****, olympic boxing is ****, awful, rubbish, blahblahblah... apparently the guy fought Bruno in the 80's! But he went particularly insane during the Nevin fight. Stood up a few times and screamed "HIT HIM", "SHOW ME SOME WORKRATE!" etc... drew some embarrassed giggles from around us. We were on floor seats about halfway to the front, so just wondered if it carried to the TV mics...?
