Pick any fighter and analyse why and what was his best punch. Could be really hard for some fighters who are really good with a lot of shots. Try and analyse every aspect of a shot, power, precision, speed, effectiveness (may be the biggest one), and then settle on one. I'll start with Sweet Pea Whitaker, a really tough one as the man was a genius at times, most people may automatically think the jab, but imo it may have been the southpaw backhand, his left was hitting without being hit at its very best imo. He would position his head and shoulders so that he was sort of leaning and protecting his chin, and then he'd step in towards his guy and really blast them with a precise left from, oh if he would have had more power!!!
I think Sweet Peas left uppercut was by far his best punch. On film is was not only powerful, but sneaky deceptive and very accurate.
Duran is a hard 1 to do, because of the great uppercuts and hooks, his best shot could be one of the body ones that came from under, but imo its the right hand from distance, so accurate, hard, and the main thing imo, is that it was never telegraphed
Agree on Duran's right hand, T. Also I think Robinson and Ali, two guys who had other quite effective punches in their arsenals, wouldn't have been half the fighters they were without that long right hand.
Robinson had a great roundhouse right aswell didnt he? What a great left hook though, the thing that makes his hook so great though imo was the aillty he had to double it up, treble it, and he may have even thrown 4 in successiion
Marcianos right was strong Dempsey and Frazier had great left hooks Lennox also had an excellent right Hearns right was amazing Foster had a great left hook
Chavez' right is his best imo, straight to the head, his overhand was good aswell, and his left downstairs. What would you guys consider Barrera's best, left downstairs, or the jab, or another one? Maybe there's 2 Marco's, the super-bantam one's is the left hook to the body, and the other Marco's is possibly that heavy jab. Ike Quartey's would most certainly be the jab, was like a power shot
Oscar de la Hoya's jab is one of the best I've ever seen. It has everything. It is sometimes overlooked because of how good it is. I mean he doesn't have a lot of extra motion making it stand out. Oscar's jab is straight to the point. He doesn't leave it out like a push nor continually fire it from dangerously low positions.

...........Good thread. Sal Sanchez: Lead right. Hugely effective with this. Alexis Arguello: Left hook. Surprisingly short for a tall, lanky guy and enormously powerful. Bobby Chacon: Overhand right of course. At the end of his career, it's all he had left.
