First off i just want to say im not exactly a big fan of his. But i didn't start following his career until the Lacy fight, so my question is before his hand injuries was he still a volume puncher? I know he had alot of knockouts but along with the power was he still throwing over 100 punches a round?
I actually got the feeling he was messier, throwing in harder groups but less relentless. Others may see it different, I didn't have Sky so mainly saw repeats...
He's not as good post Lacy as he was pre Lacy. He was at his peak about five years ago when he fought Mitchell. He's adapted his style to cope with his brittle hands
Personally yes, obviously he's not at his peak now. I think some of it might be mental too, he looks more assured...
He's never possessed blistering KO power. He had decent power but mostly stopped people by volume as opposed to having them out on their feet.
I think it was still fair to say he was a volume puncher, but maybe not quite as much as he is now. I don't think he ever KO'd a lot of people with single shots, it was always combinations he threw.
joe may have lost power because of his brittle hands but imo he is probably a better fighter post lacy than he was pre lacy. i say this because his confidence is sky high, he seems to have no nerves whatsoever, he enters the ring with no fear at all, very relaxed and full of belief.
He had 23 knockouts straight and he could really punch, but he was open alot more and didnt throw as many punches, he was a better fighter back then but now he is a much better boxer, he knows he cant bang so he uses speed and skill to win when he use to try and knock most people out. he almost met hopkins 7 years ago but it fell through. because of his style he would of probs lost so its a strange one with him.
He was more of a box/fighter in his prime as in he could stand toe to toe or he could out box people depending on who he was fighting.
Yes before the lacy fight when his hands were good he had KO power, Same speed as today and a slightly lower workrate. That's why he never looked like being beaten when he was younger.
Joe has always been a boxer...he never really goes toe to toe..sometimes he mixes it up but hes mos def not a brawler in any way shape or form...
Quite simply he's a much more mature fighter nowadays. When he was younger he'd be throwing with the opponent, heavy shots, and score knockouts like that. There's more calculation now.
