A Truly Devastating Headbutt

    We see butts all the time in boxing, of course, but most of them at worst open up a cut. And that obviously ends fights.

    But tonight, Torres was badly hurt by Holt's head. I didn't realize it live or even during the first couple of replays, but it was that rather than the left to the body that sent him reeling.

    And it didn't seem intentional at all, just the perfectly right angle for Holt and the perfectly wrong angle for Torres.

    There must be a rubber match!

    I could see Torres' head jolt back on the first few angles. It seemed pretty obvious that something hit him in the head, I just thought it was a punch. I knew it wasn't the left hook to the body.

    I noticed the same thing and wasn't sure. His body angle from those first shots did suggest a shot to the ribs, but that wasn't the case at all. Man, he was jacked up after that butt.

    No disrespect to Holt, who was on the wrong end of controversy the first time, but you have to wonder what would have happened without the butt.

    yea after he got the headbutt he went into the ropes, by the time he came out he got hit with the right dead on the chin

    No question it was a great right hand, but Torres was a wounded fish, too. Wow, what an ending.

    I can't remember the ESPN fight I saw from years ago, but a guy actualy got KO from a headbutt. It was unintentional so just order a rematch and lets get on with it.

    I still think Ricardo's face-block on the right hand was a delayed reaction to the hook. The butt hurt, and maybe exacerbated the damage already done (you could argue it bought Holt another half second with Torres' hands down...which they already were between the hook and the butt), but the recoil made it look more dramatic than it actually was, IMO. I felt Kendall's left in my ribs more than the top of his skull on my chin. And of course that right hand flipped me off my couch. :lol:

    I see Holt has been working with Holyfield, Hopkins and Forrest in the lead up to this fight.

    didn't Forrest badly hurt Mosley with a headbutt that Shane just never fully recovered from?

    sadly in this case the right hand landed was so devastating not even instant replay would have done anything in this fight...

    yeah the first time I saw this I was like man where was the punch. I guess I can see a head but might have sent him back like that.
