Either or. I once used it to successfully prevent a major kick-off with a mate who'd have too many beers: "sid-down steve, sid-down steve, quick steve". Followed by the wrestle and laughs. Mood changed. Ali and Joe can always help out. :good
I think it was real, Joe was pissed and Ali was a bit scared. So when Joe wasn't paying attention he grabbed him and held on until it was broken up.
That was as real as it gets. Frazier realized the hospital remark was a mistake, but Ali was genuinely angry about it and just wouldn't let it go... kept calling Frazier stupid. He didn't expect him to stand up and confront him, but when it happened he didn't back down and wrestled him. Incidentally, that was more entertaining than their entire second fight that same year.
