The third Norton fight was very contraversial. Norton seemed to be putting rounds in the bank. Ali would attempt to flurry in the last thirty seconds to steal the rounds. Neither man was staggered or seriously hurt. Norton made the fatal mistake of coasting in the last round which ended up costing him dearly. I think this fight was judged on a round by system. Two of the judges had Ali ahead by an 8 rounds to 7 rounds edge. So I believe if Norton had stayed aggressive and won the 15th he would have received a split decision verdict. It seems like he had already won about 9 or 10 rounds anyway so the 15th round should not have mattered. If Norton does decide to become aggressive maybe Ali works his late magic and pummels him ala Shavers the following year. I doubt it though.

And a gift against Doug Jones and a gift (at least once) against George Chuvalo . Ali did not win these fights either .

The Jimmy Young and 3rd Norton fight were what I would refer to as robberies. The second Norton fight couldve went either way. The Shavers fight couldve went either way. Even the second Frazier fight couldve went either way.

I think Ali beat Norton in 2 and 3. The only one that was a really bad decision was Jimmy Young. But the less said about that fight the better.

I was at Ali Norton 3. The fans rooting for Ali all thought he lost. Norton 2 I saw on tv, it was robbery too. If Ali loses second fight to Norton, boxing losses money. THey were not going to let that happen.

Alis second fight with frazier was considered controversial at first, but not as much, and it faded out as years went by. Ali held so much he should have had points taken away.

Kudos for being at a great event! All three Ali Norton fights were damned close. I said I had Ali ahead and was disagreeing that it was a robbery. Dozens of people would agree with me; dozens would agree with you. That's not a robbery, that's a close fight.

Haven't seen Ali-Frazier two in years but Ali didn't hold anymore than John Ruiz did. And he almost dropped Frazier but the ref blew that call. So there you go.

The referee and the two judges all thought Ali won the third fight.
    Ref Mercante's score was 8-6, Lederman's was 8-7, Smith's 8-7. Close fight.

The second fight saw the ref have it 7-5, the judges 6-5 and 5-6. If you're correct , at least one of the two who voted for Ali was bribed, and gave a dishonest verdict ,care to point the finger?

If the powers that be were concerned about losing their meal ticket ,why did they give Norton the verdict in the first fight?

The difference between the first and the second fight was Ali's condition, and the 9 lbs of fat he melted off between fights.

Foreman and Cooper were cheated differently .
Liston is a more complicated and unknown case .
Don't make me repeat what i made 2 threads about .

Two "Ali gift decisions" would be Ali-Young and Ali-Norton III.
