Well, it must be said, Ali did grab and hold behind the head way too much. He also rarely hit with real power, and his mugged around too much. In later years, the style became almost unwatchable. He did have brilliantly fast hands though, and took a good shot, and fought hard when he needed to. That balanced out the obvious flaws in his style.
