Ali Hypocrite

U, well stated.. We are a nation of laws. To glorify Ali for his refusal to serve ,when called, must not be called an act of heroism. It wasn't. It was an act of defiance,dictated to him by the Black Muslims. Ali was brainwashed by them. Nothing more, nothing less..Thousands of black
fighters served their country with HONOR. Were they wrong and Ali with
his noble wisdom correct ? I think not ! What would occur if everyone
refused to be drafted in the armed forces, because they did not want to go?. I'll tell you what it's called, ANARCHY.! If you don't like your leaders
leadership, and dont want to serve, why vote them out. Remember the
millions who disagree with you, and abide by the law, have the same
lawful rights that you have.This is called democracy...

Personally, I would defend a person's "right" to disobey a law on a point of personal conscience, BUT they must be willing to face the consequences. maybe Ali was prepared, maybe he wasn't.

Ali actually got off lightly, and was no doubt privileged with his high-paid lawyers and his celebrity status and the publicity. And I don't know how genuine his consientious objections were. I mean, if you see the initial statements he made, most of the stuff he talked about was like "Why me ?" "I pay my taxes" etc. etc.
People remember Vietnam now as a dubious war, an unjust one, but Ali would have refused to fight in WW2 too, just as his leader Elijah Muhammad did.

So, in a way I'd defend the "right" to refuse the draft, but if you do so, you should willfully pay the penalty. That's the point of Civil Disobience. Ali had the money and fame to stay out of jail, and he ran around giving lectures while poorer blacks (and whites) had no choice but to go the 'Nam or go to jail.
People talk as if he sacrificed so much when the states banned him from boxing, but he still made a living and he didn't go to jail, or face a firing squad or anything as drastic as that.
He gets blown out of proportion.

 

He also, bad-mouthed a real gentleman in Archie Moore.

Totally uncalled for, there was no need to boost ticket sales for a fight that was
already 'sold-out'.

Ali fans forget, these fighters were people who had families.

Most Ali fans, are sympathetic whites, who feel thay have to bend over backwards
to worship the guy.

Ali did the fighting for the weak self-pitying liberals who hated America.
Oh, they loved him when he was making fools of every fighter.

But would they let Ali in their homes, and date their daughters.,,,,,,,NO!!!

 

I agree with Ali's stance on 'Nam.

I do not, nor will I ever, agree with the way Ali treated a good man like Frazier.

No one deserves that, Frazier has all the right in the world to be a bitter man.

Because nobody else would think such a foolish thing, that his fans are sympathetic whites. It's funny you talk about an entire race and culture's lack of idealization towards Ali, yet I bet your not black.

 

The funny thing,,,,,,,,,
in 1967 when shown a World Atlas,,,,,,,,Ali couldn't find Vietnam.

He pointed to Japan, and then insulted all of the Oriental People by saying,
well they all look alike to me.

Even if he joined, the guy would have never seen Vietnam. He probably would have had a short stay in Australia, at some supply depot.

 

But Ali has apologized for that. He always was trying to just promote the fight. And I bet Frazier wouldn't have made nearly as much money if the fights weren't built up the way they were. But your right, he went too far during the build up of the fight, and theres no excuse. But he has shown remorse for those actions.

 

Exactly, he had no idea where Vietnam is. So why the hell would he represent an entire race and religion by fighting in a war he knows nothing about?

Or should he be a dog?

If in 1967, if he was standing on a street corner in NYC, taking your so-called stand
against Vietnam,,,,,,,,would you get down on your knees and praise him for
being so righteous.
Or would you walk right by him,,,,,,,,

 

He should get over it. Frazier called him clay in 68 in an interview, knowing his new name was Muhammad Ali. he instigated it. I'm not saying he should have went as far as he did, either. Ali was a dick to Frazier. but he saw it as a game sometimes. He was trying to get in joe's head. He did this to most of his opponents too. He took it to another level with Frazier.
