Rez, Didn't you just love the way Muhammad Ali criticized Ken Norton for his appearance in 'Mandingo', portraying a slave and showing his behind for all to see on the big screen. While he was juggling several woman at the same time. Ken Norton said it better,,,,,,,,,'Ali, the moral authority for black men'
well no it was actually worse because ali is BLACK....... Its a hell of a lot worse for a black man to call another black man an uncle tom than a white man to say it.
Really? Ken Norton did that? I never knew that. But by the first impression sounds of it, sounds like Norton was exploited. But are we still judging Ali in the past? And ignoring all the growth he has went through? Hmmm Duce, what if we all judged you based on your beliefs 5 years ago. Would you consider that a fair representation of yourself? What about 10 years ago? If Ali was today the same man he was 40 years ago, okay you start to have a point. But your narrow minded desperate attempt to find fault in his life is failing. Like Ali said himself "A man who thinks the same way at 50 as he did at 30, wasted 20 years of his life."
Islamically a man can have 4 wives, so hes following his ethics to a T. Ali was a womaniser and is hardly the first successful man to womanise, most men do to some degree given the opportunity
on a basis of peer respect, yes But on a general level, hell no. lol you have to have some balls and a death wish to be calling black people uncle toms if your white. Thats what I mean, you have to be from this country to truly understand.
And he wasn't even thinking with that mentality. He was going through extreme turmoil with his 2nd wife while in Zaire. He was basically single, because they had unofficially broken it off.
And at the same time he said "Joe Frazier's too ugly to represent BLACK folk. Joe Frazier looks like a Gorilla" For anyone to defend Ali by saying the Gorilla comments had no racial angle is ridiculous.
I was under the impression Ali got as much skirt as he could, I don't see it as a massive knock on a man, he could any girl he wanted and its what most of us yearn for
REZ, 'extreme turmoil',,,,,,,,,,,,I have to use that one on my wife!!!! No,,,,,,,Ali listed Veronica as Mrs. Ali,,,,,,,, in Zaire. Not Veronica the 'mistress'. No harm, no foul,,,,,,,,,, Ken Norton also said, 'if I want to be exploited, I'm smart enough to understand that I can make that decision by myself, not being told that by some immoral phoney'. 'I get the feeling with Ali, that every move I make, it must be approved by him, even the guys I want to fight'. 'The sun doesn't rise and set with Ali, though he thinks it does.'
Yeah, but it was certainly an area of HYPOCRISY. I've seen him in interviews preaching the values of the Nation of Islam muslims, and proper conduct for black women, and attack the morals of non-muslim blacks and white society ...... meanwhile he was out running around ****ing loose women, or corrupting young admirers. And he did like them young. One of the mother's of his offspring was 15 or 16, and this was in the 70s when he was in his early 30s ! He treated her pretty bad by some accounts too.
MR. UN, You know, the more we dig deeper into this guy,,,,,,we find out he's as real as a $25 Rolex Watch in NYC. No 'inner workings'
extreme turmoil okay heres where the conversation gets boring in my eyes He introduced her as his wife to reporters, but they weren't married or anything. He was impressing her. Marriage came after Zaire, and I'm sure the decision to marry came after as well. "'I get the feeling with Ali, that every move I make, it must be approved by him, even the guys I want to fight'. 'The sun doesn't rise and set with Ali, though he thinks it does.'" - Sounds like this is the root of that problem. Can you acknowledge he grew as a human being, and changed his mentality about a lot of things? And openly admits it? Because trust me, you will keep finding these little faults he did here and there in his life if you keep looking hard enough. But by ignoring all the good things he has done, and ignoring his growth as a human in his later years, your dealing with something internal yourself. I can give you facts about Ali to debunk your doubts, but I can't help you with that.
BTW you could argue being named 'Uncle Tom' is a compliment, although obviously Ali didn't use it in that way. Uncle Tom, was a fictional character, a black slave portrayed as a hero, he wouldn't give up 3 run away slaves and suffered being beaten to death as the consequence for his loyalty. However he was accepting of his role as a slave, submissive and seen as a weak 'house n1gger' and considered a bad example to blacks because of this The 'Uncle Tom' comments Ali used to make were somewhat justified anyway. An Uncle Tom/House N1gger is someone who appeases whites and makes no effort to try and change the order of the world, happy with building a relationship with the master and not caring for the social inequalities. As opposed to the 'Bad N1gger' who would defy his master. This is why 'bad' became a compliment. Ali ofcourse has stronger ground than any boxer of the time when it comes to claiming the 'Bad N1gger' role and he did consider Patterson/Terrell and to a lesser extent Frazier to be House N1ggers who would bow to white authority to gain success. If anything he was probably more angry that Frazier could mascarade as HW champion, without beating himself for the title, being given the title by the white establishment
Hes as real as all the money he put towards helping society. Hes as real as all of the lives he positively inspired (not yours obviously) in the end. You and him are both human beings. Your a grain of sand to a beach in comparison to what you and Ali have accomplished and lives you have helped. Your brain has the same capacity as his. He has fed over 20 million people, helped/create numerous charities. Devoted life to help his fellow human being, inspired a mentality, indirectly created a genre of music (rap), is a political figure, and countless other things. You and him both have the same mental capabilities biologically. Duce Il...Brought back Sonny Liston fight facts. Pretty good. But you got a long way to go before you can say Ali is not real.
