I remember watching this exhibition - believe it was on The Wide World of Sports. It was in the late 70s, probably after the third Norton fight and before the first Spinks fight. It was near the end of Ali's career even though I'm pretty sure he was still champion when it took place. Boxrec did not have it listed in Ali's record.

A little more research turned up the date July 14, 1979 for the exhibition. Ali was still champion but it was after he had regained the title from Leon Spinks the previous year. He would shortly thereafter retire and come back with two last fights against Holmes and Berbeck.

I'm on phone here....so arkward to look it up....but I think just before that he fought 3 exhibitions on one night.

edit - I thought it was uk but it was rhode island in march....3 exhibition bouts on one night against Dino Dennis, Alonzo Johnson and Jimmy Ellis.

Ali took it very easy on Alzado. At one point, Ali hurt Alzado with a right hand and laid off. Ali let Alzado hit him in the stomach and it didn't bother Ali at all.

Alzado was a decent amateur I think he fought Ron Stander or Ron Lyle in the amateurs, I seen him in a few bar brawls and he was a rugged guy. the weights and roids and football training put him in a different physical direction but he may have done well had he stayed with Boxing. Football $ called him and he had to go but the ROIDs got him in the end

Imagine what Mike Tyson or George Foreman would of done to Alzado to put into perspective.
