Ali by wide decision. He's easily as fast as Tunney, can absorb and avoid a punch better, and physically stronger. Having said that,Tunney was one good fighter.

Nat Fleischer definitively stated that Ali was faster than Tunney. Muhammad had height and reach on Gene. Tunney would have some success with his abrupt right over the top, but not enough. Ali takes the competitive UD.

Gotta go with Ali here. Taller and heavier with a longer reach and more speed than Gene. Tunney would make a good fight though but I see Ali by decision or late round tko.

This is closer than most think. It is doubtful (but possible) that Ali KOs Tunney. I think Tunney might beat FOTC Ali, but not the faster, younger version. And there is no way that Ali likes Tunney's style. he has real troubles landing. But the flip side, never considered is how does Tunney actually deal with Ali's speed. In fact, has he ever faced someone who is faster than himself? Either way, both these guys have too much class, smarts and will to win for this to be anything but a split decision, imo with a draw the most likely result but saying that, I do think that Ali might have that slight advantage in the intangibles area and would probably pull out just enough to convince the judges.

I can't envisage Tunney beating the FOTC Ali anymore than I can see him beating the 1967 version. Ali still too fast and strong. Prime Gene takes the post Manila version, but no earlier one.

I will go with Ali by a close decision....Tunney had the style speed and movement to trouble him but Ali takes the nod

I think Tunney by decision, with body punching being the difference.
