i was wondering if someone is working 9-5 and taking night classes, and can only go to the boxing gym 2 times a week, and cant make the other days but can go to a local gym with ONLY a heavy bag, could you just use what you got, shadow box, jump ropes, weights, road work; ccan you still be good at what you do without the uppercut bag, speedbag, and double end? would it be a good idea to hit the heavy bag without supervision even though i been doing this for 5months? also another question is would you drive 50mins go the boxing gym just to train or do you think school fulltime, work full time, plus boxing is overkill? or should i wait till after i graduate.
I used to work full time, go to school full time and box, but I wore myself thin and my grades suffered. Now I just go to school full time, box, and work part time (25 hours a week). Normally Id say hell yea though. Use what you got. Hell, I rarly even use a speed bag or uppercut bag. Only being 5 months out though I wouldnt suggest it. You could form bad habits. I say if you have to work full time, school first for your spare time, and wait till you graduate to box. You'll be happier in the long run. Again though, this is just my opinion and what I would do.
naw man im sayn im still boxing ive havent been 5 months out i said ive been boxing for 5 months.... im just saying because my courses in the summer and fall will be hectic n i need to work full time to pay bills. you know how that goes. so by then i would probaly have a good 9 -10months experience so by then could i just go the the gym 2 days a week, and other 2 days i go to a regular gym n just use heavy bag without supervision? could i be good or without supervision on heavy bag 2 days ( without dbl end, speedbag)) will limit me? the other 2 days at the gym i will have supervision and everything though
I ment like you're 5 months out since you started boxing, I worded that bad, I apologize. You're a better judge on whether you can juggle those things at the same time or not then me, it just didnt work out when I tried. As for the uppercut bag and speed bag, I dont use either, and I still bust up other guys on my fight team when I spar them. Im sparring my trainer this Friday after fight class though... say a prayer for me...
The advantage of going to the gym provides you with a training atmosphere, or at least that is the way it should be. However boxers don't necessarily need to go to the gym all the time. Getting in shape can be done anywhere, but beyond that shadow boxing is one of the most important aspects of training if it is done properly. You can literally run hundreds of drills and scenarios through your mind and partially act them out. This will help program the instincts that you need to make your moves and counter-moves automatic. Bag work is important, but no more important than shadow boxing.
but i mean me going to the boxing gym 2 days a week and 3 days at a regular gym with a heavy bag,. also running 4 times a week.. should i be a compettive amateur or your really think i should wait 2 yrs. and if u think i should wait i stay active so ill always be fit
A lot of people work under unique situations. My advice would be to Make your situation work for you, but be honest with yourself if you are trying to do too much. Make sure your goals and challenges are high enough that you have to work hard for them, but not so high that they are not realistic of achievable. If you have good focus and time management skills then probably you can compete as an amateur with your schedule.. but like I said it all depends on you. But the key is to be honest about your strength and weaknesses so you can plan accordingly.
