i've just watched the prescott fight from last night and i'm even more worried about how bad khan's chin is. i know prescott has a lot of ko's on his record but none of them against decent opponents and mostly in columbia. lately watching prescott i just don't believe he is the big puncher we all thought after the khan fight and now worry he be taken out by solid punchers and not big punchers. am i wrong?
Prescott has above average power, which was blown out of proportion by the Khan fight. We all know his early career was padded out, and since the Khan fight he has scored just one stoppage (against a journeyman who was stopped by Steve Forbes in 2...enough said) in 5 fights. Toledo was there to be knocked over, which looked possible early on, but he survived and didn't look in trouble all that much from what I can remember. No disgrace in not stopping Vazquez, and he did score a legit knockdown in the 1st round (although Vazquez wasn't hurt). Same with Mitchell, who has a sturdy chin (yet we seen against Kats it isn't the best). Cuello again was there to be knocked over, but he wasn't a bad opponent - plus Prescott was up in weight for the fight and he scored a knockdown late on and wobbled him on occasions. Like I say he has above average power - but not many of his recent opponents are leaving an open defence for him to test his power.
I always thought he was absolutely massive for a lightweight, and struggling to get down to weight may have worsened his punch resistance. When he was at lightweight, the quality of opponents he faced was not very good, understandably, and he would blow them away before they got a chance to land anything on him. However, it seemed that he would be hurt everytime they did land on him, including guys like Willie Limmond. We've seen other boxers improve their ability to take a punch when they move up-Pacquiao is a great example, as is Cotto so I feel this will help Khan but you're right about him not needing to face a big puncher to get knocked out again. A solid puncher will be enough IMO. He's improved his defence a lot and is now a safety first boxer. I can't see him stopping many of his opponents from now on, and he's harder to hit. However, if the quality of opponent goes up, someone will land soon enough, then we'll see exactly how much the move to 140 has helped his chin. As for Prescott, he looked terrible against Mitchell. I'm not joking when I say that I think there are dudes who have never stepped foot in a ring in their lives who are better boxers than him. I mean you talk about slow, wide punches that you can see coming a mile away but that was something else. He looked like a drunk man in a bar brawl. Actually, he looked like a drunk man throwing punches underwater. Mitchell could've had the reflexes of a 90 year old and still managed to avoid those punches.
Prescott's power is a myth. Here is my post from yesterday about it. You can now add a decision win over a guy who had been KOd 5 times to the list. Mitchell is talking ****. He got laid the **** out by Kats, he's trying to save face. Prescott fought mostly guys with LOSING records. Let's take a look. His first 8 opponents had a combined win-loss record of 4-27. He then "stepped up" vs a 7-8 fighter, and took him out in 2. This guy had already lost 8 times by knockout. Then comes monster Jose Mendrano (30-19). This guy had lost 8 times by KO vs bums, it took Prescott 5 rounds to get him out of there. Another 0-1 fighter follows, then a 1-6 fighter who had already been KOd 6 times vs bums. Now we're getting real serious. In his 13th fight, he fights Miguel Suarez (4-23), 14 losses by way of knock out. Prescott takes 3 rounds to get him out of there. Next up is tomato can Dunis Linan, who appears to be the first fighter Prescott fought who doesn't fold like a lawn chair. Prescott fails to knock this guy out, takes a UD in 10 rounds. In his 14th fight, tomato can Franklin Arroyo (7-5 record, 5 losses by KO). Prescott takes him out in a 2 rounds. Next up is This content is protected Orlando Solano boasting a perfect (0-7record with 7ko losses atsch) Pretty sure this guy was just pulled from the local bar, drunk. Prescott takes him out in a round. 16th fight, Prescott takes on the elite Anibal Polanco (4-5-3, 2ko losses) Prescott takes him out in a a round. 17th fight, Prescott finally takes on someone who looks to have a decent record, Richard Abril (10-0-1). Prescott fails to knock him out, but takes the decision. 18th fight, Prescott travels to the UK to take on a man he describes as "a pampered baby". He wobbles the kid with a jab, and then takes him out, much to the shock of the home crowd. He's defeated Amir Khan. Next up is Humberto Toldeo (mediocre journeyman, with 5 losses, 3 by KO.) Prescott cannot take him out, and wins by DQ in the 10th. Interestingly, this guy was brutally KOd by This content is protected in a round! This content is protected also took him out in 3 rounds! Prescott could not take him out. 20th fight, Miguel Vasquez (journeyman with a decent chin) Prescott cannot take him out, despite flooring him in the first, loses a SD. 21st fight, Brit/Euro level Kevin Mitchell. Mitchell takes some shots off Prescott but walks through them, winning an easy UD. In his next fight, Mitchell is brutally banged out by Katsidis in 3 rounds. 22nd fight, back to what he does best, fighting and knocking out glass jawed bums. Jason Davis (11-6, 3 losses bby KO. Prescott takes a round LONGER than This content is protected to take this guy out! atsch This guy was on a 5 long losing streak. A can. So there you have it, when Prescott has stepped up past the Columbian night-club bouncer/road-sweeper/cab driver level, he has KOd no one, apart from Amir Khan. Prescott is not a power puncher, he's a guy who can knock out bums, but nothing else. Prescott doesn't hit that hard, it's just Khan's chin is THAT BAD! The end.
his chin is terrible but lets remember kotelnik KO'd gavin rees and khan went the distance with him without looking troubled this does not mean his chin is average but its probably improved a bit however if maidana lands the same way as prescott did hes ****ed
