:yep Lee needs to fight almost the opposite of what he does. He fights too amatuerish and doesn't rely on his jab too much. When he started pumping that jab, he was doing fine. If I was his trainer,

Step one: Double jab
Step two: Double jab
and finally
Step three: Double jab

He arm punches to and needs to get behind his jab just as he does his straight left. Steward needs to work on his body mechanics and shifting his weight around before he even starts to do any basic boxing. He has decent power already, but a tall, rangy fighter like Lee needs to bounce and fight off their toes to truly use their reach and height advantage.

Call me crazy but I actually kind of like Lee and think he is a decent fighter...

YES!

He has a good jab when he puts his mind to it. When he puts his mind elsewhere he hits that wall. I mean, his right hook is a nice weapon but he can't fall in love with it so much. Hook off the jab (or preferably off the the double jab, as you say). Keep the left hand stiff and straight, and always set it up with the jab. Maintain distance with the jab and focus on moving your head from enough of a distance to spot incoming punches with plenty of reaction time (since his head movement isn't particularly fast).

Those all seem easy enough to say, but implementing them is another thing entirely this deep into a career laden with so many bad habits learned by rote. If he gets some more personalized attention at the Kronk and learns directly from the maestro how to fight tall, safe & smart he could still make it as a top fighter.

 

More than decent potential. Less than decent execution.

 

Hell yeah he is and he can be exciting as hell too.

One of the finer points Andy would benefit from is the old Pavlik trick of getting a guy thinking about the jab, and then start flipping the jab into a left hook at the last instant. That particular technique is the reason so many of Pavlik's opponents end up with their right eye all ****ed up.

 

Andy does the small shorts thing because it makes his legs look longer and therefore makes him look even taller then he is.

 

It's true too. Everybody always talked about Pav's straight right (which should mostly hit the left side of an opponent head) bein the killer, but it was always the right side of their face showin' all the damage.:yep

You think Andy could use that move? Andy bein' a south paw affect the effectiveness against right handers at all?

Yes I think Andy could make it work. If you notice how KP does it he isn't even throwing hard jabs. He's just flicking it and his glove isn't even closed, and the BANG -- hard left hook. It's the distraction and then the sudden change that makes it work.
