Not as much as the word "shot" is overused. Everytime a fighter loses a bout he's automatically "shot".
'He's already breathing hard, the pace is getting to him.' Being out of breath doesn't mean you're actually tired. For once, Watt did actually point this out.
Before the fight: "Its been a perfect training camp, everything went to plan and I feel 100% coming into the fight." After the fight: "Things didn't really go well in training. I injured my hand in sparring early on and didn't get the rounds in I should have. Also, I was attacked by a bear while I was out running, ******* mauled me pretty good. Thats why my performance was a bit off tonight"

I read somewhere that can be a subconcious mechanism for a boxer distancing himself from the loss. Instead using "I" and "me" he talks about the performance as if it was another fighter. (thats might well be a load of physco-babble though!!)
A good big'en beats a good littl'en. fighter a beats fighter b, fighter b beats fighter c but doesn't mean a beats c.
