....and it was very nearly two...Andrew Selbys opponent was also allowed to take far too much punishment. Both fights should have been stopped much earlier. I see that 'delightful' paper The Daily Mail has used this potentially tragic story to shoehorn in 'calls to ban boxing'... Like they give a damn about this guy's health
Well we hear all of these idiots shouting their mouths off about 'British' stoppages but these are the very real results of letting these one sided fights go on for too long.
If they want to ban boxing then they should ban marathons, football, rugby etc etc cos there's been a few deaths in them sports over the years too. Hate the Daily Mail. Hateful, right wing tosh.
Pray for him to recover. He is a brave warrior, I thought his corner could have pull him out after round 10
Exactly every year at least 1 or 2 runners die running the London Marathon. Are they calling for that to be banned, given its guaranteed that someone is going to die? Its very very unusual that any fighter dies in a boxing ring or following a fight.
Groves behaved in a rather unsporting fashion in the ring...rejecting friendly gestures from eg, like not touching cloves at end of rounds when eg tried to initiate it a few times.... not making a gesture at the end etc. He'd feel a bit of a prop at today if eg had died. Groves is definitely lacking "people skills". Strange character groves.
Unsporting? Perhaps. Still, it could be worse he could be hanging out with vile murderous gangsters and their associates.
I think he is probably on the spectrum. It's not as simple as him being unsporting. He just is "lacking" something..empathy?? Dunno. But he is almost certainly on the spectrum. Not a warm, well-rounded individual, like say ..oh I dunno....a Matthew Macklin or a Felix Sturm.....
So you think Groves has a condition and is worthy of criticism but drugs cheats and gangland affiliates should get given a pass? C'mon Len, you're better than this.
That guy was getting pummelled.. refs stop stupid fights when there's a draw of blood or no visible damage to the face etc.. but allow some fights to go the full 12.. When you see visible damage to the face like swelling.. it's obvious a guy is losing.. and if couple that to the fact he's losing losing.. in the boxing sense.. you know.. some guys could be the boxer and getting a rough time.. so you let it go on for a bit.. If you're gonna lose on points.. and taking a visible beating.. (bruising.. cuts or whatever).. or something close to it.. then a punchers chance loses it's value.. because of safety.. but yet they stop Audley on the 1st Sprott knockdown lol.. calling it a KO technical..
I turned off midway.. because I knew the result before the fight.. well I thought Groves was gonna stop him.. but was surprised to turn back on and still going on FFS..
