made limond look like a novice tonight, which is embarrassing,as i had willie down to win convincingly on points.either willie's 'shot,'or 'million dollar's' the most improved british fighter of 2011 - or a bit of both?
....that said, crolla's lack of firepower will prove to be his undoing.moving up,the top fighters will walk through his jab and nifty combinations.european's the best this boy will get imo...
Age and inactivity has been Limonds downfall tonight. Very frustrating to watch being a Scotsman. But I did not see anything overly impressive in Crolla, European level at best.
this fight says quite a bit for crolla, , i thought crolla would have stopped him in 4 rounds, limmond throughout his career has been suceptable to being hurt at domestic level, arthur stopped him, khan dropped him and hurt him when he was still a prospect, an aged morales took his rib cage away and annhilated him once he got his rythm. Crolla poured continious ammount of shots in and still couldnt hurt him, says allot about how far this kid is going to go. I think crolla beats gavin rees, but someone like a kevin mitchell or ricky burns would show him up.
To be honest limonds always struck me as relatively speaking an average boxer who has been well managed . Any time he goes above a certain level he gets stopped ala Arthur, Khan (yes i know Khan went down twice and Limond should have won ) and of course Morales , although that was as much about what Morales had left and it turned out the answer was something . He's still been there or there abouts at domestic level for years and I imagine he's made as much money as a fighter of his abilitys possibly could have
Crolla did what he had to do to win, without having to get out of first gear. As a proud scotsman I had Limond sneaking a tight first round, & it was all downhill from there. I felt sorry for Peter Harrison as Limond fought like a journeyman who was happy to go the distance, & made Peter look bad IMO despite him pleading with Willie to have a go, which never happened. Utterly disrespectful AS USUAL of Ricky Burns, Bunce & Rawling talking up Crolla like he could give Ricky Burns a fight cos he beat a Limond who was in survival mode from first bell to last:-( Its as if the pundits just think Burns got lucky against Martinez & katsidis, & hes a bum there for the taking... Lightning doesnt strike twice people.
Improved from what? Last year he was on plenty good form, shutting out the likes he was supposed to (Razak et al) and stopping Morris in his one bout of significance. I think he's just in an odd spot to rate, because due to his style he'll always be able to outclass the field domestically on a good night but can also look plebeian in a tough go with a Juan Montiel on a poor night. In other words, he'll outbox whoever lets him at or below his own level...but will also willingly let himself get dragged into a brawl by men he'd easily outbox could he resist the baser urge.
u say that like its a bad thing atsch i've said it before and i will say it again Crolla will be a world champion 1 day
I like Crolla alot although he doesnt do anything spectacularly but is just a solid guy and seems sound. That said i really dont see him doing much on the world scene unless hes very well managed.
I think there are a lot of bigger fights he could have been in post-Khan. Everyone was talking about that fight at the time. I think tonight he looked drained and has shown his age. Maybe its time to retire, but I still think a fight vs. McAllister would be a good money spinner.
Crolla was just much more comfortable with executing his array of skills. Thought Limond had much more to give. Crollas lack of power made the fight boring.
