you got that right . Lujan is a bum and at the time only had 4 year experience as a pro boxer .. Very Very Very bad example . Margarito was able to pressure Lujan for a number of reason , 1 lack of boxing skill, 2 lack of boxing skill 3 lack of boxing skill .. The man/lujan lack skills period Margarito could have hit Lujan if he was blind in one eye and puss oozing out the other .. A better example would have been Clotty who was able to hit Margarito at will from Angels
atsch The only reason why you're not a complete idiot is because some parts are missing. Margarito fought C Level fighters, some pushing to B. The B Level fighters he fought against, he lost. It takes immense talent not to understand the concept. Your ignorance is encyclopaedic. And I'm repeating to you, qwijibo, that no one among the "everyone" you are referring to are elite fighters, not even A Level fighters. Who did Margarito beat? The one-punch wonder Kermit Cintron? Golden Johnson? Joshua Clottey in a handicap match? Lujan? :rofl No, of course, none of the C Level (and B-reduced-to-C Clottey after he injured his hand) couldn't keep Tony to distance. Note that the operative word is "C LEVEL". You're bringing stupidity up to new levels, it's just fabulous! Name the boxers Margarito fought who, according to you, had the said hand/foot speed and, while you're making a complete idiot of yourself, name at least one boxer Margarito beat that has hand/foot speed comparable to Cotto's and Mayweather's. I'm waiting LMAO.
opps my bad thanks angle but in any case clotty was able to get the best of Margarito with out moving his head and hiding behind a high guard and moving side to side and standing straight up Cotto who comes in low , moves his head , and also has a high guard should give margarito a boxing lesson but if he chooses to stand and trade with margarito which I think he wont , but if he choose to fight margarito fight he will lose. but I expect Cotto to box using side to side movement.
Are you always that stupid or are you making a special effort today? I explained why and provided the punchstats to back it up. Let me take your hand and guide you through the concept (I'm a man of faith): #1 - Margarito is slow, Mayweather is fast. #2 - Margarito is predictable, Mayweather is the best at anticipating what his opponent will do. #3 - Margarito is fairly easy to hit, Mayweather is the most difficult boxer to hit - comparative punchstats are available online and prove my point. #4 - Margarito's landed punches/landed punches against differential is somewhere near "0", which indicates that he gets hit as much as he hits. Mayweather's said differential is by far the best in boxing right now. #5 - No matter how critical one can be of Mayweather's resume, let alone as a WW, it's still better than Tony's. If you can't understant the concept, then you're beyond help. Now let go my hand. :hi:
I feel like margo has picked up some power in his punches since the loss to williams, his punches vs. johnson and cintron were some stingers.
I think Cotto vs. Mayweather would be much more entertaining and cotto has a better shot of winning than Margo vs. mayweather because cotto is so versatile. He can box, he can punch, he can dig in and brawl, he is a complete fighting machine. Which will make it interesting to see how he handles the fight with Margo, will he play into Margos hands? Or use his superior boxing skills to outclass him? Eventhough I am a huge margarito fan, I feel like margo vs. mayweather would be boring. Floyd would pot shot and antonio wouldnt be able to walk him down.
Nice color...but that's no play by play.:bart I won't say what you said isn't true for the most part, but... being faster can be negated by keeping em away with a jab, timing them, or keeping them in the pocket more by throwing a lot. Margarito does jab, but his best asset is his volume. He's not going to head hunt, that's not his style. He'll hit the body and head and shoulders....and hit them hard. Of course Mayweather would be the betting favorite, but he's just not doing what he did earlier that made him exceptional. Being at WW seemed to have cut down his output a lot. He's been fighting guys that can fight at a slower pace, aside from Hatton. Margarito won't. Floyd will have to up his output to at least 70-80 punches thrown a round at least. If anything, just to keep Margarito honest and away more so he can do his own thing. Against DLH, Baldomir, HAtton, and Judah they didn't press him like Margarito will. I'll reserve judgement more when I see Floyd again. But this inactivity (compared to when he was at his best) can't be beneficial. Yes, he's predictable. He he just constantly throws. That's his gameplan: take the other out of their game and make them more aggresive, or tentative. How you handle it is the story. Floyd has been a slower starter @ WW. Especially lately. Margarito vowed to start fast from now on, which he has. Unless they take an early control and make Margarito give em up. Sharp punches, which Floyd can do, would surely keep Margarito back. BUt again, there's more likley going to be a lot of punches coming at him to work around.
I love how "skill" gets tossed around on this board with no conclusive understanding of what "skill" really is. Seems to me the people who think Margarito is trash are the same idiots who cannot exactly explain why. I hear the same arguments time and time again. He's slow. He has no skill. Well idiots, if that were important someone would have capitalized on that by now right? And Ziggy/Bigtime9, you truly are an idiot. I feel compelled to tell you that once more. Name one attribute Cotto has that can replicate the victories Santos and Williams had over Margarito. Oh and ******, just to take the steam out of your bubble I'll answer the question you will undoubtedly hound me about later. Joshua Clottey David Kamau Andrew Lewis Just to name three boxers with fast hands and footwork. I'm sure there is more.
I'm sure that you're about to enlighten the crowd with some interesting insights on "skills", the world has been waiting. I'm reading on... No one said he's "trash", he's just not elite. He hasn't fought elite yet and lost to B Level fighters. You can try to reinvent the wheel all you want, Margarito's record just speaks for itself. Thanks for "idiots", as you call them, the magic thoughts power of a few delusional nuthuggers hasn't yet totally replaced the old ways of assessing a boxer's level of skills, i.e. based on his resume and by attentive observation of his performances in a ring. Just the fact that you associate me with another poster, one I don't even know, qualifies your entire body of work on this forum, which is based on blankeT statements. Given that you've summon his name, I'll let Bigtime9 answer you back. As for me, junior, your question is just another sample of the rhetorics of ignorants. Cotto doesn't need to emulate anyone else's style to beat a guy like Margarito; he will beat him using his ability to adapt (which he displayed in no small fashion against Mosley), and his whole arsenal of skills and punches. Now if you still need that someones lists for you what Cotto's skills and punches consist of, then you shouldn't be watching boxing at all. What a ****ing moron (TM), you are. Unbelievable! Clottey made Margo look like an amateur before he injured his hand, plus Clottey is a B Level boxer at best. Kamau? The same dude who got KTFO by DLH within 2 rounds in 1997? That was 8 ****ing years ago and was totally shot at the time he fought Margo. Lewis? :rofl:rofl:rofl
You wouldn't understand how boxing works if it walked up and slugged you in the mouth. That's a fact. Boxing is a mesh of different combinations of things. Intangible factors such as physical advantages, ring experience, attitude and willpower. Some rundown for you on Cotto. He uses a split guard defense and he bends over a lot to protect his body. He's there to be hit with the uppercut. Lots of guys have caught him leaning in. Corley nailed him with a sweeping right hook/uppercut that wobbled him badly. Judah and Torres both found Cotto on the uppercuts. Mosley also caught Cotto with the uppercut. You know why he got hit with those punches? Probably not so I'll explain it. When a smaller man doesn't set his feet in close and elects to leap in with a split guard his chin is very vunerable. He doesn't have his feet under him and his chin is not protected. Plus his neck is up in the air which means when he gets hit his head is gonna get rocked. One of Margarito's best punches is the uppercut. Lots of guys have fought him with the same split guard Cotto brings. And all of those guys ate uppercuts. Now of course Cotto has some intangibles that might help him survive like his willpower and his own power. But if he can't hurt Margarito it's likely he's going to end up in a battle of willpower and that one will likely go Margarito's way. Clottey doesn't fight with a split guard. He uses a tight crab defense. That makes it harder to land the uppercut. Despite that Margarito still was beating his ass by the second half of the fight. And **** you on your recursive reasoning about Clottey's hand. You dumb *******. How many times does it have to be said? Both guys came into the fight less than 100%. Baldomir and Gutierrez both showed that Clottey gets tired as a hard fight presses on. What about this is not sinking into your tiny skull? Margarito beat his ass FAIR AND SQUARE. You can go ahead and place abstract grades on his opponents as if it matters. It doesn't. Corrie Sanders was a 10-1 dog against Waldo Klitschko and he dropped Klitschko like a bad habit. Do you even understand why that happened? No, of course you don't. :-( Styles make fights. I repeat, STYLES MAKE FIGHTS. Just because a guy is undefeated, looks good and does good doesn't mean he cannot be beaten. Managers are very careful about who they match their guy with. Especially with a prospect like Miguel Cotto. Unlike Cotto, Margarito was not managed right as he was coming up. He was fed to guys as the opponent. If you had read the post I left about his record previously you'd get that. Anyways I guess you are too dense to even go back that far. You fit his MO. No doubt about it. Why don't you elaborate then, knucklehead? You say he's going to adapt. Adapt how? You mean like how he adapted to Mosley's uppercut? Brilliant stuff there. He managed to look the same getting hit by that uppercut for the entire 12 rounds. I don't know if I'd call that adaptation. He's lucky Mosley isn't a big hitter these days. Now I'm not dissing Cotto. I see his strengths. I see how he can win by utilizing his height and staying low. He can use lateral movement to avoid the uppercut and switch his split guard to a cross guard when he's moving inside. Will he do this? Only time will tell. But there is NO GUARANTEE. Something an idiot like you with abstract references depends on. Wahh wahh wahhhh. Cry more about the hand, you ignorant newbie. By the way it was only 3 years between the DLH and Margarito fights for Kamau. Not 8. In that time he only lost to three guys. Danny Perez, Oscar De La Hoya and Antonio Margarito.
Margarito looked terrible in that fight; however, he looked good in the Clottey fight. He didn't look like he did against Cintron the second time around, which I believe to be a peak Margarito, but he beat the **** out of Clottey. Clottey was forced to low blow and fake a low blow to survive. He took severe punishment and only by virtue of his massive heart and toughness was he able to survive, especially against Margarito's minute long onslaught in the 9th round. Against Lujan, Margarito did not look to be at his best. I'm not saying that Margarito is on Floyd or Cotto's level as far as skill is concerned, but he's noticiably improved and it looks as if he's added more muscle since those fight as well which makes him an even more formidable opponent considering his style.
Great response. I don't know why people bring up the Clottey fight. I saw Margarito whipping Clottey's ass for the majority of the fight and Clottey only firing back in spurts. Not to mention that Clottey low blowed Margo hard, and faked a low blow to give him some time to recover from the beating he was receiving, especially to the body, from Margarito. Most of the people that diss Margarito only do so because they are terrified of the prospect of Floyd getting in the ring with him, yet they don't realize that it just makes them look foolish when they say things like, "there is no point in seeing Margarito get brutalized by Floyd because it's inevitable that he's going to lose."
