I was wondering whether unification fights are mandatory. I know regular title fights have mandatory challengers but what about unification fights?

Nope, that's why we haven't seen Spence-Crawford or Bivol-Beterbiev yet. Tbh I'm not sure were going to see Fury-Usyk either.

They're not, but there is a relationship. In order to get a unification fight, one or more of the belt issuing bodies will need to postpone their mandatory challenges.

It's one of the reasons fighters often shed belts after unifying, because otherwise they have a logjam of mandatories to negotiate as well as multiple licensing fees to the alphabet agencies...

Thanks! With that being said, I've always wondered how does a champion from one organization get a belt from another if they're not in the other organization's rankings?

The question comes about in different forms, but the answer is always money.

Will putting fighter X from organisation Y against fighter A from organisation B make money? Then it will likely happen, as long as everyone gets their share. Most of the time Boxing is a business that pretends to be a sport...

So based on what you said it's basically a voluntary defense which would rake in money

You can’t be mandatory in another organization if you have one belt, but a unification fight trumps a mandatory sonic your unifying titles you can bypass your mandatory

No and quite frankly it appears as if the alphabet gang frowns upon them, unless it's a superstar type talent then they can't avoid them and just go along with it.
