Escalera beat Everett officially.....I know many claim that Everett was robbed, but I felt that Escalera nipped it much to my chagrin! I was still pretty young and my memory may be biased as much by the memory of the fight as by my Pop-Pop and I talking about it. I have not seen it since, and don't know if footage is readily available....I would certainly like to watch it again and re-evaluate that memory.
I'd be interested to read your views on it now; I have to be honest, I scored it 12-3 in favor of Everett, and I didn't think the rounds were even close. Very clear-cut for Tyrone........

Alexis Arguello fought Alfredo Escalara on 1/28/78. Tyronne Everett was murdered on 5/26/77. On 1/28/78, Alfredo Escalara was clearly the second best Junior Lightweight in the World, and would have beaten anyone else at 130 lbs. at that time. It should be said, an immediate rematch should have taken place between Alfredo Escalara vs. Tyronne Everett.
Escalera didn't suck, that was a tongue-in-cheek comment made while drunk. He was a very capable fighter, just not a favorite of mine by any means. Awful stylist, in my opinion. That said, both he and Arguello put on some epic showings against each other and both should be commended.

TKO over Mancini in 1981 on CBS Sports Sat.:deal Al Arguello was already pushing 30 yrs of age and was fighting at 135 pounds against a raw, but determined Raymond Mancini who also was possibly the best conditioned lightweight in the world in 1981. Yes, I know, Mancini's skills sucked, but his power and aggression as well as youth was a respectable factor / factors for the aging Arguello to endure... :deal MR.BILLhat

Alfredo Escalara vs. Danny 'Little Red' Lopez was almost made before he took on Alexis Arguello. The end of 1977, in early-December for the WBC (130 lb.) Super Featherweight Title. The WBC had it lined up, but Escalara wanted the fight only in Puerto Rico. Both parties had earlier agreed to fight in Las Vegas.
Scoring off the tape as much as I could in favor of Escalera, and then adding the opinions of all other scoring posters here who further advantaged Escalera in any way, the closest I could get was 144-143 Everett. I gave Ty the first four rounds, and the Snake Man the final four. I gave Escalera round five, Everett six, seven and eight, Alfredo round ten, and rounds nine and 11 were even. So Tyrone won no rounds on my card after the eighth, yet I still had him winning, 7-6-2 in rounds, with all rounds either 10-9 or 10-10.
