He was never a great boxer. I doubt he'd have ever beaten an actual elite boxer, though I did have him beating Ward in all 3 bouts. That's not saying anything though, as Ward was a pretty inept boxer. But hey, he was exciting, and sometimes that's all people look for.
:rofl :rofl :rofl Great boxing ability my ass. Gatti was a 3rd rate fighter who got his ass kicked twice by a mediocre Ivan Robinson, and made his career by taking 2 outta 3 from Mickey Ward, who was a career JOURNEYMAN. Please spare me on Gatti having "great boxing abilites".
Amen! The man in your avatar had great boxing ability, not ****ing Gatti! No great boxer gets outboxed by Ivan Robinson..... twice!:rofl Gatti is one of the most overrated fighters of all time, and if they put that bum in the HOF it'll be a disgrace.
What hardcore fan would want Gatti-Branco? Gatti-Branco is one terribly boring fight, and Damgaard was a super bum. You Gatti groupies are hilarious.
Anybody want to speculate on hihs HOF chances? He was a very popular fighter and was a part of Ring's fight of the year a few times.
I'm not a big Gatti fan, but rather a big boxing fan. I enjoy the aspects of the sweet science of punching skill, defensive artistry, ring intelligence, footwork, etc. Also a huge part of boxing is heart which Gatti had in spades. He was also extremely exciting. That is why you saw famous, world class boxers at Gatti's fights. Because they knew that they had the opportunity to see something special when Gatti fought. To refer to a man that won the IBF 130lb title and the WBC 140 title as a "bum" is ridiculous. You are a complete clown that has no business even thinking about boxing much less talking or typing about it. You are in insult to all fighters out there that are brave enough to climb between the ropes. Go home and jerk off to your PBF or Roy Jones tapes or whatever popular fighter of the moment you claim to have been a fan of all along and shut the **** up.
The HOF is "supposed" to be for great fighters, not 3rd rate fighters like Gatti. Unfortunutely the HOF is a joke, and a popularity contest, so a mediocre guy like Gatti will get in probably. Simply because people rode his nuts, and he was exciting in all his ass whuppin defeats, which they are many.
Yes I'm a fan of both Roy and Floyd, and guess what? Bum ass Gatti couldnt hold either of thier spit buckets! Like Mayweather Sr. said "Everybody beat the **** out Gatti." I repeat, Gatti is one of the most overrated fighters of all time. You wanna talk about a great action fighter... how bout Saad Muhammed? He was even more exciting than Gatti, but was actually a quality fighter who beat other quality fighters. Yet he's not nearly as celebrated as Gatti. Hmmmm..... I wonder why.
Matthew Saad Muhammad had some great wars especially his fights with Qawi, whom Qawi said himself that Muhammad was his toughest opponent of his career. (Even more so than his later fight with Foreman). The reason he wasn't near as popular was that he was in the light heavyweight class which has never been that popular, but especially in the years that he fought in the late '70's and early '80's. He was being overshadowed by a young Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Alexis Arguello, etc. Muhammad unfortunately became somewhat of a punching bag for the last few years of his career, much like Gatti in the last couple years of his career. This is what happens a lot of the time with guys that go to war because they lack the god given ability of speed to avoid punches. Now with all that being said, first of all what are you insinuating is the reason Gatti was more popular than Muhammad? And also, what the **** does Muhammad being a great entertainer/brawler have to do with the fact that you hate on a fighter like Gatti that brought so much excitement and joy to boxing fans around the world?
I personally don't hate on Gatti, I just don't think highly of him as a fighter, more as an entertainer. But as a fighter, aside from his huge heart and toughness, he didn't have a whole lot going for him, as most of his best abilities were second tier. Saad Muhammad was definitely a far better fighter with similar excitement level and more power. Just behind Spinks in that general era of LHW's in my opinion, along with Galindez(though they were all split a bit).
